The 2001 Z06 was the first of the light ones. Chevrolet built it only on the fixed-roof hardtop, the stiffest body in the C5 range, and made the weight savings standard equipment rather than a box to tick. This one is black over black on polished five-spoke wheels with red calipers, carrying a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger and approximately 36,000 miles on a clean title. *Exterior:* Black over the fixed-roof body only the Z06 used, which is the fastest way to pick one out from across a lot. Brake cooling ducts sit ahead of each rear wheel, the antenna is fixed at the tail, and the pop-up headlamps up front were nearly extinct by 2001 outside of this car. The factory Z06 wheels have been swapped for polished aftermarket five-spokes, calipers painted red at all four corners. *Interior:* Black, two seats, and not much else between you and the driving. A full roll cage runs through the cabin, which is the clearest signal of how this car gets used and what the previous owner expected of it. A short-throw shifter replaces the factory unit, tightening the gate on a T-56 that was never especially precise to begin with. *Engine:* The LS6 left the factory as an all-aluminum 5.7-liter rated at 385 horsepower. This one has been bored and stroked to a 6.0 and fitted with a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger, and it now makes 930 horsepower and 679 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. *Drivetrain:* A Borg-Warner T-56 six-speed manual, the only gearbox the Z06 was ever sold with, mounted at the rear as a transaxle and tied to the engine by a torque tube. That layout is where the C5's balance comes from. The FE4 suspension underneath was Z06-only with no softer alternative offered, so the boost is going through a chassis built to take it.
