The 2017 Toyota 4Runner SR5 stands out for its robust list of standard features, including four-wheel drive, power driver seat, Entune Audio Plus, and a sliding rear cargo deck, which are often optional or unavailable at this price point in other SUVs. Analytical buyers seeking to maximize value will find this SUV appealing for its blend of equipment, capability, and reputation. For those in St. Louis who value durability and versatility in changing weather, the 4WD system and roof rack are standard inclusions that make all-season travel and outdoor activities more accessible. The trim-level balance means you avoid overpaying for luxury add-ons while still receiving core technology, convenience, and safety features that enhance everyday use. The 4Runner SR5 offers a proven track record of cost efficiency, especially for families or active individuals needing flexibility and resilience. Under the hood, it delivers a 4.0L V6 SMPI DOHC engine paired with a 5-speed automatic with overdrive, giving you a balance of power and efficiency that matches or exceeds similar-priced competitors. The EPA estimates 17 city and 20 highway MPG, which translates to predictable fuel costs in daily driving. Maintenance costs are kept in check thanks to Toyota's reputation for reliability and well-engineered components, reducing the risk of unexpected expenses. While some rivals offer smaller turbo engines, this SUV's simple, naturally aspirated V6 is prized for its longevity and lower long-term upkeep. Standard safety value is a key strength of this model. Unlike some competitors that require costly upgrades for advanced safety tech, the 4Runner SR5 provides anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, a rearview camera, dual front and side impact airbags, knee airbag, and Toyota's Safety Connect emergency communication system-all included without added cost. The anti-whiplash head restraints and an occupant-sensing airbag system further enhance protection, ensuring you receive comprehensive safety features as standard rather than optional extras. The included features list reflects a focus on providing high utility without unnecessary frills. You benefit from amenities such as power windows, remote keyless entry, a leather steering wheel, split folding rear seats, front bucket seats, and a rear window defroster. Both Entune Audio Plus and Entune Premium Audio with Navigation are standard, offering versatile infotainment solutions. The sliding rear cargo deck makes loading and unloading gear effortless, and the roof rack extends carrying capacity for trips or sports equipment. Functional touches like fog lights, heated mirrors, and steering wheel audio controls simplify daily routines. When comparing value to other midsize SUVs like the Honda Pilot EX and Ford Explorer XLT, the 4Runner SR5 stands out for its standard 4WD system and hard-wearing build quality. While rivals often charge extra for navigation or advanced off-road capability, these come included here. Which features are standard? This SUV provides navigation, SiriusXM, a rearview camera, power driver seat, and Safety Connect at no extra cost. Is the 4Runner SR5 worth the price? The inclusion of 4WD, robust safety equipment, and durable materials makes it a high-value choice. Which trim offers the best value? The SR5 delivers essential tech and utility without the premium for luxury-focused upgrades.
