2013 Subaru BRZ The 2013 Subaru BRZ is a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe developed jointly by Subaru and Toyota. As the first model year of the first-generation BRZ, it emphasizes precise handling, balanced chassis dynamics, and driver engagement rather than outright horsepower. Its closest sibling is the Scion FR-S, later renamed the Toyota 86. Engine and performance The BRZ uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter FA20 flat-four (boxer) engine, producing 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 6,400 rpm. Buyers could choose a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. With a curb weight starting at just 2,762 pounds, its low center of gravity and rear-wheel-drive layout make it particularly responsive in corners. Subaru Media Driving experience The BRZ's defining characteristic is its handling rather than straight-line acceleration. Its precise steering, low seating position, limited-slip differential, and balanced suspension make winding roads especially enjoyable. The engine needs relatively high RPM to deliver its strongest performance, and its modest low-end torque is a noticeable compromise in everyday driving. Interior and practicality The 2013 BRZ was offered in Premium and Limited trims, both with a 2 2 seating configuration. The cabin prioritizes driving ergonomics, with supportive front seats and straightforward controls. Its rear seats are cramped for adults, but the folding rear seatback increases usable cargo space beyond the 6.9-cubic-foot trunk. Fuel economy was estimated at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with the manual transmission. Subaru Media Reliability and ownership considerations One important concern is the 2013 engine valve-spring recall, which affected certain vehicles and involved replacing potentially defective valve springs. Not every 2013 BRZ was affected, so checking the vehicle identification number and documented repair history is essential. Other worthwh
