The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is the company’s smallest and most affordable SUV offering. The XT4 plays in the same league as the Lincoln Corsair, Infiniti QX50, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. Of course, we could mention other luxury brands, but none have the XT4’s $36,000 starting price. This fact, coupled with a generous list of standard and available features, makes the XT4 a luxury SUV worthy of a test drive.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine making 237 horsepower powers the XT4 and is the only available powerplant. That’s less power than the Lincoln Corsair and Infiniti QX50, but more than the slightly smaller Mercedes-Benz GLA, and much more than the Audi Q3. In addition, all-wheel drive is available across the entire trim range.
While price is one of the XT4’s most attractive attributes, those unimpressed by the Cadillac name can find many of the same luxury features and equipment on a non-luxury-brand SUV like the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. It offers an advanced digital display instrument cluster, a roomier interior, and an available hybrid.
For 2022, every Cadillac XT4 gets the Smart System. This standard safety suite includes a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian protection, plus Teen Driver, a Safety Alert Seat, and a rear-seat reminder that alerts the driver if a child or pet may have been left in the XT4’s back seat.
2022 Cadillac XT4 Luxury (Starting at $35,795)
The XT4 trim line begins with the Luxury model. It incorporates most of the features one expects at this price level, including one-touch up/down power front windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, remote start, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with paddle shifters, and heated outside mirrors.
However, those seeking leather seating or enhanced audio must either add options or move up to the next trim.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 Luxury rides on handsome 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and comes standard with automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, acoustic-laminated front side glass and windshield, and power liftgate.
The XT4 is equipped with several advanced driver safety systems and has even more in its options arsenal. Standard assists include forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear parking sensors, and a high-definition rear backup camera. Automatic emergency braking works at speeds below 50 mph and, in certain situations, can slow or stop the vehicle before it collides with a person or another car.
Thoughtful features include a Safety Alert Seat driver’s seat that vibrates at the left, right, or both sides of the seat, alerting the driver to a potential hazard so they can avoid an accident. GM’s Teen Driver allows parents to set limits on certain features such as speed and radio volume and also compile a report card to tally your offspring’s driving habits. A proximity keyless entry system requires that the key fob be close to the vehicle to unlock the doors and start the engine.
On the luxury front, the XT4’s seats wear a synthetic leather upholstery Cadillac calls Inteluxe. An 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support and 6-way power passenger seat comes standard, as does Active Noise Cancellation technology to help quiet the cabin. A 4.2-inch color driver information screen resides between the analog speedometer and tachometer.
The XT4’s interior materials don’t exactly exude luxury and bear more than a passing resemblance to GM interiors from Buick and Chevrolet, an attribute most noticeable in the switchgear and touchscreen infotainment system. However, Cadillac does cover the dashtop and door panels in a convincing stitched faux-leather covering that is attractive and soft to the touch. Rear-seat passengers sit on split-folding 60/40 seats with folding armrest and enjoy rear air vents and two USB charging ports.
The XT4’s center console includes two cup holders and a rotary controller for the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment system. CUE consists of an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, Alexa, and natural voice recognition software so you can use your voice to adjust the cabin temperature or change radio stations.
The system also includes Bluetooth streaming and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (requires subscription). In addition, the XT4’s CUE system offers the option of uploading apps such as Spotify or various new services.
A 7-speaker audio system with an amplifier covers music duty. Two 12-volt outlets can be found in the console along with an additional 12-volt outlet in the cargo bay.
The XT4 Luxury offers many exterior styling packages, including the Onyx Sport Package, which adds black exterior upgrades and 20-inch gloss-black wheels. The Radiant Package offers similar upgrades as the Onyx, only with bright trim and wheels.
The Cold Weather Package adds leather seat upholstery, heated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and heated steering wheel. The Driver Awareness Package adds a follow distance indicator, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Some notable standalone options include navigation, dual-pane glass sunroof, wireless charge pad, and 13-speaker Bose Centerpoint audio system.
Opt for all-wheel drive, and you can add another $2,500 to the bottom line.
With the $1,195 destination fee included, the 2022 Cadillac XT4 Luxury costs $36,990. If you finance for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down, the monthly payment comes to $665. Find a 2022 Cadillac XT4 Luxury for sale

2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport ($39,895)
You may have noticed the Sport and Premium Luxury have a mere $100 price difference. That’s because the two share many similarities, although some features in the same option packages are different.
The Sport builds off the Luxury trim by adding more stylish blackout trim, unique grille, more aggressive 18-inch wheels, red-painted brake calipers, sport steering wheel, sport alloy pedals, and a choice of wood or carbon fiber interior accents.
Faux leather Inteluxe is standard, but the Sport’s front seats include power articulating side bolsters. The driver and passenger seats have 4-way power lumbar support, while the passenger seat gets upgraded to an 8-way power-adjustable unit. Cornering lights are also standard.
The Sport offers an upgraded Active Sport Suspension featuring adaptive dampers for improved comfort and handling.
With the Sport, the Comfort and Convenience package adds leather seats.
Other than these two changes, the Sport’s optional packages and equipment pretty much mirror that of the Premium Luxury trim.
Including the $1,195 destination fee, the 2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport costs $41,090. Using the same loan calculation as the Premium Luxury, the XT4 Sport’s monthly payment is $738, or just $1 more each month. For this reason and the available Active Sport Suspension, we’d pick it over the Premium Luxury. Find a 2022 Cadillac XT4 Sport for sale
