2022 Cadillac XT5: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is a 5-passenger luxury SUV in a middle ground between smaller compact rivals and larger midsize competitors with a 3-row seating layout.

While the XT5 doesn’t offer a third row of seats, it can’t be faulted for not giving occupants in the first or second row plenty of stretch-out space. There is also a sizable trunk, and the rear hatch swings upward to reveal more than 30 cubic feet behind the rear seatbacks.

Cadillac has kept trim levels fairly simple. There are only three in total: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. Luxury and Premium Luxury come with standard front-wheel drive (FWD); add $2,000 for all-wheel drive (AWD).

The range-topping Sport trim is fitted with an upgraded suspension and a wider range of comfort and tech features. For the power-hungry out there, it’s worth noting the XT5 Sport is the only version that comes standard with the 310-horsepower V6 coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This engine is available starting in the Premium Luxury model.

The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that develops 237 hp in the Luxury and Premium Luxury models. This turbo-4 is paired to the same 9-speed automatic that comes with the V6.

All 2022 Cadillac XT5s are equipped with the Smart System safety suite. In addition to a forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, Smart System includes a Safety Alert Seat, rear parking assist, and Teen Driver, which allows parents to set various parameters (like stereo volume) for beginning drivers. All XT5s also have a rear-seat reminder that alerts the driver whenever a child or pet may have been left unattended in the rear seat.

To better know the 2022 Cadillac XT5, let’s look at what features come with each of the three main trims.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Luxury (starting at $44,190)

The Cadillac XT5 has a base price of $44,190, including a destination fee of $1,195. While the Luxury trim comes standard in FWD format, adding AWD costs an even $2,000 for this model and the Premium Luxury trim one step above it.

As we’ve mentioned, the standard XT5 engine is a 237-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder paired to a 9-speed automatic. According to the EPA, the XT5 returns 22 mpg in city driving, 29 mpg on the highway, and a combined average of 24 mpg. However, these figures drop to 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway/ 23 mpg combined if you add AWD.

In terms of safety features, every XT5 comes with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, Teen driver system, front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera, front pedestrian braking, and safety alert driver’s seat.

When it comes to comfort and tech touches, the XT5 Luxury is fitted with an 8-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, onboard Wi-Fi hot spot, heated and powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, Bose audio system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.

Major stand-alone options and option packages available on the XT5 Luxury include 20-inch alloy wheels, a rear-seat infotainment system with DVD player, Cargo Convenience package (with roof rails and side sill steps), and Onyx package (gloss black exterior trim, 20-inch wheels with all-season tires).

If kept at its base price, with destination fee included, financing for 60 months at a 3% interest rate with no money down comes out to $759 each month. See the 2022 Cadillac XT5 Luxury models for sale

2022 Cadillac XT5 Premium Luxury (starting at $49,990)

The Premium Luxury trim could be the sweet spot of the XT5 range. It comes with valuable added features that help make this a more comfortable and safer luxury SUV.

Like the Luxury trim, the Premium Luxury has the same turbocharged 4-cylinder, 9-speed automatic, and choice of adding AWD for an extra $2,000. Yet, unlike the entry-level XT5, the Premium Luxury shopper can upgrade to the optional 310-hp V6 engine — a choice that adds about $1,000 to the price, along with a sizable degree of straight-line speed.

Further separating the base Luxury trim from the Premium Luxury is the latter’s healthier dose of luxury items, including a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, and hands-free power tailgate. Added standard safety items include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert.

An XT5 Premium Luxury buyer doesn’t have to stop there, of course.

One of the most sizable — and pricey — option groupings is the Platinum package. For approximately $5,000, this includes leather seating, a leather-covered dash, a microfiber suede headliner, sport suspension, rearview camera mirror display, and tri-zone automatic climate control.

For about half that price, the available Enhanced Visibility and Technology package comes with the rear camera mirror, a driver-adjustable head-up instrument display, automatic parking assist with automatic braking, surround-view camera, and 8-inch digital instrument display.

With its starting price of $49,990, an XT5 in Premium Luxury trim with no down payment, plus financing for 60 months at 3% interest, ends up costing $858 monthly. See the 2022 Cadillac XT5 Premium Luxury models for sale

2022 Cadillac XT5 Sport (starting at $57,090)

Sitting at the top of the XT5 lineup is the Sport model. This is the only trim that comes standard with the 310-hp V6 and AWD. Added to this are steering assist and an adaptive suspension.

Interestingly, outside of the mechanical edge, it has on the Premium Luxury, these two trims have many of the same available option packages. This includes the Platinum package and Enhanced Visibility and Technology package — though the Platinum package costs about $1,000 less in the XT5 Sport.

Additional upgrades include gloss-black painted or chrome-finished 20-in. alloy wheels, the Onyx appearance package, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, 14-speaker Bose stereo, and hitch guidance with guidelines to aid in towing.

With everything thrown onto it, all told, a 2022 Cadillac XT5 Sport easily streaks past $60,000.

Using the base price as our model, however, with no money down and financing for 60 months, a 3% interest would result in a monthly payment of $980. See the 2022 Cadillac XT5 Sport models for sale
