2022 Chevrolet Camaro: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro stands out in a sea of cloned sedans and overly abundant SUVs. Along with rivals the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger, it represents the last remnants of a bygone automotive era, a time when American muscle was all the rage, offering power, styling, and performance at prices anyone could afford.

That same mission carries on today, with the most basic Camaro priced in the mid $20,000 range. Buyers can opt for a choice between 4-, 6- or 8-cylinder engines, all with the option of manual or automatic transmission.

Whether it’s the sporty coupe or open-air convertible, the Camaro promises passionate performance and exhilarating speed. Its styling may be too over-the-top for some, especially fans of high-end European performance coupes. But then again, good luck trying to find a Porsche, Ferrari, or BMW with 455 horsepower and a $35,000 price tag.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LS (Starting at $25,000)

As the entry-level Camaro, the 1LS trim is shockingly affordable. Offered only in coupe form, $25,000 gets you a 275-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential. The manual features a hill-hold feature to prevent the car from rolling back on a hill.

An 8-speed automatic is optional, and both transmissions come with Driver Mode Selector with Tour, Sport, Snow, and Ice settings. The Camaro’s limited-slip differential gets deleted when ordering the automatic transmission.

That’s a pretty impressive set of features just by themselves, but the 1LS has so much more.

Handsome 18-inch alloy wheels, body-colored power mirrors, and intermittent wipers are all standard, as is a sport suspension, dual exhaust, and a tire-inflator kit replacing the traditional spare tire.

The Camaro 1LS lacks modern-day driver-assist systems. To get them, you’ll have to move up to the 3LT. However, there is a full complement of airbags, electronic traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, and a tire-pressure monitor. Tire Fill Alert is also standard. When inflating a tire, the system uses the car’s side marker lights and horn to signal when you’ve reached the proper pressure.

Inside the 1LS, you’ll find a set of sport bucket seats with an 8-way power driver’s seat, single-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and a folding rear seat.

Power windows and door locks are standard, but a proximity key fob is an unexpected perk. Having the key fob in your possession is all that’s needed to unlock the doors and start the car.

Other standard features include cruise control, an automatic trunk release, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, plus a color driver information center.

Covering entertainment duties is Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 system that includes a 7-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth for phone and music streaming, and six speakers. Through GM’s OnStar connected services, customers can upgrade to host a Wi-Fi Hotspot. A rear backup camera is also part of the package.

Options for the Camaro 1LS are limited to a few visual upgrade packages, such as the Red Accent Exterior Package. Other options of interest include performance upgrades like a six-piston Brembo brake package.

With the $1,195 destination fee, the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LS sells for $26,195. With no money down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to $471. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LS models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LS includes:

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged engine – with 275 horsepower, the base turbocharged 4-cylinder engine provides thrilling performance and reasonably good fuel economy.
  • 8-way power driver’s seat – helps drivers of all sizes find just a proper seating position.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – allows full integration of an Apple or Android smartphone without the need to plug into a USB port.
  • Keyless Open and Start – allows the vehicle to be unlocked and started simply by having the key fob in your possession.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT ($25,500, coupe) ($31,500, convertible)

The LT trims (1LT, 2LT, and 3LT) offer the best combination of features and value for the money. For only $500 more than the 1LS, the 1LT brings a few more standard features and a lot more optional choices. The LT trims also open the door to the Camaro Convertible and an optional 335-hp 3.6-liter V6 engine.

Above the 1LS standard equipment list, the 1LT adds painted silver 18-inch alloy wheels, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 6-way power passenger seat.

Popular optional equipment for the 1LT includes the Technology Package that adds a 9-speaker Bose audio system (7-speakers in the convertible) and an 8-inch color touch screen.

The LT 1LE Track Performance Package adds 20-inch black wheels, black exterior accents, Brembo brakes, a performance suspension, and heavy-duty cooling (not available for California or Washington).

Those with a passion for driving will appreciate the $1,595 Recaro front bucket seat option, the lowered suspension kit, Brembo brake upgrade, and dual-mode exhaust.

In addition to numerous visual enhancement packages, the 1LT provides a plethora of standalone options ranging from various 20-inch wheels to red-colored seatbelts.

A power sunroof is available on the coupe.

With destination, the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT sells for $25,695. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and $0 down, the 1LT’s monthly payment comes to $462. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT includes:

  • SiriusXM satellite radio – provides numerous station choices for listening anywhere a satellite signal can reach.
  • 6-way power passenger seat – allows the passenger more leeway in finding a comfortable seating position.
  • Available Bose audio – the Bose audio system is designed specifically for the Camaro’s interior, turning the tiny cockpit into a booming music studio.

The 2022 Camaro 2LT ($27,500, coupe), ($33,500, convertible)

The 2LT adds heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an outside temperature display.

Option packages for the 2LT are the same as the 1LT. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT models for sale

The 2022 Camaro 3LT ($31,500, coupe), ($37,500, convertible)

The 3LT includes all the contents of the 1LT and 2LT plus a 9-speaker Bose audio system (7-speakers in the convertible), upgraded infotainment with an 8-inch color touch screen, a wireless charging pad, SiriusXM 360L, and a rear camera mirror that replaces the traditional glass mirror with a view screen and rear camera setup.

Also included with the 3LT is multi-color ambient lighting, an 8-inch configurable digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, illuminated sill plates, a heated steering wheel, memory for the driver’s seat and mirrors, and heated side mirrors with an auto-dimming driver’s mirror.

Standard driver assists include forward collision alert, a blind-spot monitor with lane change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Keep in mind that forward collision alert is not the same thing as automatic emergency braking. It can warn the driver to take action but cannot slow or stop the vehicle.

Optional equipment upgrades for the 3LT mirror those of the 1LT and 2LT, but there are a few exceptions. 3LT buyers can upgrade their infotainment system with navigation and add illuminated footwells.

With the $1,195 destination fee, the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 3LT coupe sells for $32,695. On a zero-down loan for 60-months at 3% financing, the monthly payment comes to $587, or just $125 more each month than the 1LT. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 3LT models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 3LT includes:

  • 8-inch digital instrument cluster – replaces traditional mechanical gauges with digital reproductions, allowing greater configuration of the cluster to suit the driver’s taste.
  • Blind-Zone Alert – monitors the Camaro’s blind spots and warns of possible danger when changing lanes.
  • Heated steering wheel – makes it easier to grip the wheel on cold winter mornings.
  • Head-up display – projects essential data, such as speed, g-force, and turn-by-turn navigation, onto the windshield directly within the driver’s line of sight.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 ($34,000, coupe) ($40,000, convertible)

The LT1 is the first wrung in the high-performance Camaro ladder. It brings a 455-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, numerous performance enhancements, and more high-tech options. A 6-speed manual with active rev-matching is standard; a 10-speed automatic is optional.

Think of the LT1 as a 1LT with the performance attributes of an SS but not the $40,000-plus price tag. It’s a purist’s sports car, big on performance with minimal fluff.

Included with the LT1 are 20-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, upgraded cooling for the engine.

Options for the LT1 mimic those for the 1LT.

With the $1,195 destination fee, a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 costs $35,195. With no money down, the monthly bill on a 60-month loan at 3% comes to $632. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS ($37,500, coupe) ($43,500, convertible)

Although performance-wise, the SS is pretty much on par with the LT1, the SS package adds more features and more optional upgrades that make it the choice for those who prefer a few more creature comforts in their sports car.

The 1SS comes standard with a 455-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission, but a 10-speed automatic with manual shift control is optional.

The 1SS features the LT1’s robust hood design with integrated air scoop but presents a different front fascia complete with LED headlights. The SS includes a full set of coolers for the transmission, engine, oil, and rear differential.

Inside, you’ll find power front seats, single-zone automatic climate control, the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM 360L.

Some of the more desirable options for the 1SS include the SS 1LE Performance Package with Recaro sport seats, a satin black rear blade spoiler, adaptive Magnetic Ride Control suspension, Brembo brakes, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels.

The 1LE Spec Suspension Package brings Magnetic Ride Control and stiffer steering. This package is required when ordering the Performance Data and Video Recorder option to track and record track performance.

Other performance-enhancing options include launch control, a lowering suspension upgrade, a strut tower brace, and dual-mode exhaust.

With destination, the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS costs $38,695. If putting no money down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to $695. See 2022 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS ($42,500, coupe) ($48,500, convertible)

The 2SS is the performance value leader, offering all the power of the LT1 but with numerous upgrades to its content.

Also standard are illuminated sill plates, multi-color ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, memory for the power driver’s seat and mirrors, auto-dimming driver’s outside mirror, and a head-up display.

  • Rev-matching 6-speed manual transmission – the rev-matching transmission matches revs between shifts, allowing minimal power disruption when changing gears.
  • Wireless charging pad – allows recharging of a smartphone without the need for wires or a free USB charging port.
  • Heated and ventilated front seats – cool in the summer, warm in the winter, the perfect addition, especially on the convertible.
  • Available performance data and video recorder – storing information on an SD card, this option allows you to capture performance data and a visual record of the Camaro’s performance (preferably on an enclosed track).

2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 ($63,000, coupe) ($69,000, convertible)

The ultimate Camaro, the ZL1, gets a 650-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8 for the ultimate zero to 60 sprints.
