Into the third year of the C8 generation, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray still bowls us over. We are in awe of its neck-snapping performance, head-turning good looks, and its wallet-friendly price.
Moving its engine amidships left a few Corvette loyalists gobsmacked, but now it just seems, well, natural.
Stacked up against pricier rivals like the Acura NSX and Porsche 911, the Corvette is a downright bargain. However, base prices have risen by $1,200 across all grades for 2022.
Chevy didn’t tinker much with the 2022 edition. It did substitute a few paint colors.
Celebrating Corvette Racing’s sweep in the 2020 IMSA sportscar championship, Chevy makes available the new IMSA GTLM Championship limited-edition package.
Offered on the top trim of the coupe and convertible with the Z51 Performance Package, this $6,595 upgrade comes in either Accelerate Yellow with gray accents or Hypersonic Gray with yellow accents.
Chevrolet offers both the Corvette coupe with a removable roof panel and the Corvette convertible in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. Opting for the convertible adds another $7,500 to the bottom line.
Behind the Corvette’s front seats, a 6.2-liter V8 rumbles, generating 490 horsepower and 456 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Z51 Performance Package boosts output to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
With a manual tranny no longer in the mix, an 8-speed automatic transmission hustles engine production to the rear wheels.
The government estimates fuel economy at 15 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg in combined driving.
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 1LT (starting at $61,100)
This may be the entry-level Corvette, but its content belies its standing on the Corvette totem pole.
Included in the base price are alloy wheels (19-inch front/20-inch rear), Brembo brakes with black-painted calipers, and a mechanical limited-slip rear differential.
Other standard features include an aluminum body with carbon fiber components, a clear engine-compartment cover, a removable body-colored roof panel (coupe), LED headlights, and heated power outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals.
Among the standard cabin content are 8-way power-adjustable GT1 bucket seats, leather seating surfaces, and a 12-inch color driver information display.
A power tilt-telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control are also standard.
Highlighting the infotainment goodies are an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and satellite radio capability.
Also included are 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot capability and General Motors OnStar connected services capability.
Among the standard driver aids are an HD rearview camera, Teen Driver, and rear park assist.
Several option packages provide some degree of personalizing.
The Z51 Performance Package ($6,345) adds an upgraded suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, a performance rear axle ratio, upgraded Brembo brakes, a performance exhaust, and a heavy-duty cooling system.
Adding the $1,295 destination fee to the 1LT base prices totals $62,395. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $1,121 per month. See 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 1LT models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 1LT Includes:
- GT1 sport seats – This is the standard seating in the LT1 and LT2 grades. They are 8-way power-adjustable. Labeled “sport seat,” they are better bolstered than a typical bucket seat. However, they are much better suited to long-distance travel than the other seats available in the upper trims.
- 12-inch Driver information display – A 12-inch customizable gauge cluster provides the usual information on speed, RPMs, and so forth. It also offers programming for a range of other information.
- Teen Driver – Attached to a specific key fob, it provides parents the opportunity to create parameters for younger drivers.
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT (starting at $68,400)
Building on the 1LT standard content, the 2LT adds self-dimming power-folding outboard mirrors, heated-ventilated seats with power seatback bolstering, and a heated steering wheel.
Among the other standard features are a head-up display (HUD), an inclination sensor, a navigation system, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, a rearview camera mirror, and wireless device charging.
With the 2LT comes a performance data and video recorder package, which records video and real-time performance that can be played back on the touchscreen or saved on a removable SD card.
In the area of driver aids, the 2LT also adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Although we could live quite happily with the 1LT, our pick of the grades is the 2LT. We base this preference on the added driver aids, HUD, and the upgraded Bose audio system.
As with the 1LT, the 2LT offers several options and option packages like the Z51 Performance Package.
Adding the $1,295 destination fee to the 2LT base price brings the total to $69,695. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $1,252. See 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT Includes:
- HUD – The head-up display projects key driver information onto the windshield just below the driver’s line of sight. This minimizes the time required to check the vehicle speed and so forth.
- Rearview camera mirror – Using a rear-pointed camera, it provides a full image of what’s behind the vehicle even when the rear window is blocked.
- Performance data and video recorder – Using a windshield-mounted 1080p HD camera, the driver can record, watch and save videos for analysis (or showing off).
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT (starting at $73,050)
Adding to the 2LT standard content, the 3LT includes GT2 seats, Nappa leather upholstery, and a leather interior package.
Chevy offers several options and option packages, including the Z51 Performance Package.
Although Chevy is calling it a limited-edition model, the IMSA GTLM Championship limited-edition is based on the 3LT and requires the $6,345 Z51 Performance Package. Adding the limited-edition package runs $6,595.
Adding the $1,295 destination fee to the 3LT base price brings the total to $74,345. Financing with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest comes to $1,336 per month. See 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT Includes:
- GT2 seats – Basically the GT1 seat with the addition of power lumbar and power bolster adjustments.
- Nappa leather – This replaces the less elegant Mulan leather seating surfaces of the lower two trims. It also includes perforated inserts.
- Leather interior – This includes wrapping the upper dashboard, door panels, and center console in leather. The headliner, visors, and A-pillar are covered with faux suede.
