The 2022 Infiniti QX55 borrows an all-too-familiar look in the SUV world: the fastback SUV. At least Infiniti comes by it honestly, as it was a design pioneer nearly 20 years ago with the FX35. In keeping with this trend, Infiniti has morphed its QX50 into a sportier-looking SUV perfect for people who like the ride height and feel of an SUV but aren’t as concerned with cargo capacity.
The QX55 touts Infiniti’s best technology and luxury features in three distinct trims that appeal to broadly different buyers.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Luxe (starting at $46,500)
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 Luxe starts at $46,500.
As the first of three trims in the lineup, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 Luxe looks pretty good. It uses the same 268-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel-drive setup as the other trims, making choosing between the three a matter of content rather than performance.
The power flow is controlled by a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with manual shift mode and downshift rev-matching. A drive-mode system allows you to choose between four settings: Standard, Eco, Sport, and Personal. These modes change the steering feel, shift points, and throttle response, making the QX55 more refined, efficient, or sporty.
A quick walk around the exterior reveals 20-inch machine-finished alloy wheels wrapped in all-season run-flat tires. LEDs occupy the headlights, taillights, daytime running lights (DRLs), and fog lights. A power moonroof comes standard, as do power side mirrors, of course, but not heated. Aluminum roof rails and a power liftgate are also included, as is laminated side glass for improved noise cancelation.
Luxury appointments are numerous, more so than one might expect at this price point. An 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support comes standard, as does an 8-way power passenger seat and heated front seats. The QX55’s NASA-inspired “zero-gravity” sport seats help reduce fatigue on long drives and are surprisingly comfortable for bodies of all shapes and sizes.
Convincing faux leather upholstery covers the seats, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seat both reclines and slides fore and aft a generous six inches. Interior color choices are limited to Graphite or Stone but include dark aluminum interior accents.
From the driver’s seat, you’ll view a set of analog gauges separated by a 7-inch color vehicle information display and a manual tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for the cruise, Bluetooth, and audio. To the right, a dual-screen setup with an 8-inch upper and 7-inch lower display dominates the center stack.
Flanking the lower screen is a series of buttons controlling various functions, such as the dual-zone automatic climate control and heated seats. Just below the lower screen are hard-button controls for the audio. The upper screen serves as the display for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto when plugged in. It also serves as the display for the rear backup camera and drive modes. You can also use a rotary controller near the armrest to navigate the upper screen.
Other amenities of note include a proximity key fob that unlocks the doors simply by having the fob in your pocket or purse. Also onboard are one-touch up/down power windows at all four doors, illuminated visor vanity mirrors with visor extenders, rear-seat vents, and remote engine start.
The QX55’s infotainment setup includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto integration, a 6-speaker AM/FM stereo with CD player, SiriusXM satellite radio, streaming Bluetooth with voice recognition, plus a Wi-Fi hotspot. There are three USB ports in the front seat area, one Type C and two Type A, and a single USB Type A charge port in the rear seat.
On the safety and driver-assist front, the QX55 comes standard with a full complement of airbags, including rear-seat side-impact airbags and driver and front passenger knee airbags.
Counted among the standard driver assists are forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic detection, reverse automatic braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
With the $1,025 destination fee, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 Luxe costs $47,525. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $854. See 2022 Infiniti QX55 Luxe models for sale

2022 Infiniti QX55 Essential (starting at $51,600)
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 Essential starts at $51,600.
The Essential ups the luxury ante, bringing more standard features to the QX55 and more optional equipment.
Building off the Luxe, the Essential adds a power tilt/telescoping heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory with settings for the steering wheel and mirrors, and heated outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down. Rain-sensing wipers also come standard.
The Essential has its seats upgraded to leather upholstery, while the front seats gain cooling ventilation. A power auto entry/exit assist automatically moves the driver’s seat reward and steering wheel up upon entering or exiting the vehicle.
A 16-speaker Bose audio sound system and navigation join the infotainment setup, along with Infiniti InTouch services. A 360-degree Around View monitor helps with the QX55’s rather obvious rear pillar blind spots and includes Moving Object Detection, plus front and rear parking sensors.
Optional for the Essential is the ProAssit Package that adds adaptive auto-leveling cube design LED headlights and adaptive cruise control. Infiniti’s Blind-Spot Intervention can steer the car away from a possible collision. At the same time, Lane Departure Prevention warns the driver when drifting while selectively applying brake pressure to help bring the vehicle back into its intended lane.
The ProActive Package adds ProPilot Assist, including adaptive cruise control with stop and hold capability, lane-keeping assist, a head-up display, and traffic-sign recognition. Direct Adaptive Steering removes the mechanical link between the steering wheel and tires, replacing it with a more precise drive-by-wire setup.
With the $1,025 destination fee, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 Essential costs $52,625. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $946. See 2022 Infiniti QX55 Essential models for sale
