2022 Infiniti QX80: Choosing the Right Trim

If the large luxury SUV segment were Congress, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 would be its elder statesman.

The current generation hit showrooms in 2011.

Yes, it looks and feels like a gussied-up Nissan Armada (which it is). However, there is still much to like about the Infiniti.

For example are its gorgeous interior, beefy V8 engine, an array of driver aids, and its 8,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity.

We also appreciate its comfy ride and second-row captain’s chairs flanking a big center console.

It seats seven but will seat eight with the no-extra-charge optional bench seat in place of the captain’s chairs.

Infiniti did update its infotainment system with a new, much-needed 12.3-inch touchscreen. It made wireless phone charging standard across the entire trim-level lineup, too.

Infiniti separates the QX80 into Luxe, Premium Select, and Sensory trim levels.

A 5.6-liter V8 makes child’s play of pushing this hulk around via a 7-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, and 4-wheel drive (4WD) is optional on all three grades for a $3,100 upcharge.

Government estimates put the fuel economy at 14 miles per gallon in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg in combined driving. Opting for 4WD scrubs away 1 mpg from each number.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Luxe (starting at $70,600)

Well-equipped, the Luxe trim is what we would pick.

Every QX80 comes with hill-start assist, adaptive cruise control, and a rear automatic self-leveling suspension.

Standard content includes 20-inch aluminum wheels, LED exterior lights (auto on-off headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights), and a power moonroof.

Also included are power-folding/auto-dimming/heated outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals, a power liftgate, and tri-zone auto climate control.

Other standard features are Napa leather seating, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 6-way power passenger seat, and a heated steering wheel.

Also making the list are heated front seats and a power-folding 60/40 split third-row seat.

The infotainment content includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 13-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and a wireless phone charger.

HD Radio, satellite-radio capability, voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto are also included.

Standard driver aids are high-beam assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

Also included are a surround-view camera, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the Luxe base price totals $71,625. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $1,287 per month. See 2022 Infiniti QX80 Luxe models for sale

2022 Infiniti QX80 Luxe includes:

  • LED exterior lighting – This includes auto on-off headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights (DRLs). LEDs illuminate a wider and longer area than regular incandescent lights. That means they are also easier for other drivers to see.
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control – Separating the vehicle into three areas (front right, front left, and rear), it allows setting the temperatures in each zone. It then automatically maintains those preset temperatures.
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen – This large new screen controls several of the vehicle’s systems like audio, climate control, and more.

2022 Infiniti QX80 Premium Select (starting at $74,900)

Besides adding 22-inch chrome wheels, Premium Select includes a few black appearance cues like dark chrome exterior trim and black mirror caps.

Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the Premium Select base price brings the total to $75,925. With no money down for 60 months at 3% interest, financing works out to $1,364. See 2022 Infiniti QX80 Premium Select models for sale

2022 Infiniti QX80 Sensory (starting at $81,750)

The Sensory adds a 17-speaker Bose audio system, quilted leather seating, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and an advanced climate system.

Other added features are a rear-seat entertainment system, adaptive front lights, and speed-sensitive power steering.

Adding the $1,025 destination fee to the Sensory base price equals $82,775. With no money down for 60 months at 3% interest, financing costs $1,487 per month. See 2022 Infiniti QX80 Sensory models for sale

2022 Infiniti QX80 Sensory includes:

  • Adaptive front lighting – Illuminating the corners when you turn, these headlights turn with the steering wheel.
  • 17-speaker audio system – A Bose system, the 17 speakers create true surround sound.
  • Rear entertainment system – Sadly, no DVD player, but monitors are built into the back of the front-seat headrests and plenty of ports for plugging in stuff.
