Although Jeep can do just fine marketing off-road-worthy 4x4s, the mid-generation, hugely updated 2022 Jeep Compass signals Jeep is more than that.
More than just refreshed, Jeep is billing the 2022 Compass as the most advanced Compass ever. Heck, it may be the most technologically advanced Jeep to date.
Offering features such as the Highway Assist (late availability) semi-autonomous driving system, the latest generation Compass has a grocery list of available driver aids.
These technologies include parallel/perpendicular-park assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.
Despite its battery of convenience and technological features, it still provides class-leading off-road prowess.
Its expansive off-road credentials include 19 inches of water fording, Selec-Terrain with up to four modes of traction performance, and the advanced Jeep Trail Rated Trailhawk model.
Jeep offers the Compass in two front-wheel-drive grades, with 4-wheel drive available (Sport and Latitude). Additionally, there are three 4WD-only models (Latitude LUX, Trailhawk, and Limited).
Latitude LUX is a new trim level for 2022.
Every Compass generates its go using a 177-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with a fuel-saving stop-start system. It makes 172 lb-ft of torque. When appropriately equipped, it can tow up to 2,000 pounds (Trailhawk only).
Jeep assigns a transmission determined by the number of drive wheels. Sport and Latitude grades with FWD get a 6-speed automatic transmission. With 4WD, the transmission is an automatic 9-speed, no matter the trim level.
Jeep says the updated Compass provides twice the storage space of the outgoing model. Find a Jeep Compass for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Sport (starting at $24,995)
The Sport grade may be the gateway to the Compass, but it is no bare-bones starter vehicle.
Among the standard features are 16-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, cruise control, heated power outboard mirrors, roof rails, power windows and door locks, and air conditioning.
Also included in the base price are front bucket seats, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and cloth seating.
The infotainment system is the updated Uconnect 5 with 10.1-inch infotainment display, 8.4-inch touchscreen, voice-text reply, wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker audio system with satellite radio capability, and first- and second-row USB ports.
Jeep says the new Uconnect 5 is five times faster than before.
Every Compass comes standard with several driver aids including lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning with emergency braking, and pedestrian/cyclist automatic emergency braking.
Among the other active safety features are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Rain Brake Support.
For an extra $1,500, you can add Jeep Active Drive full-time 4WD. It doesn’t offer low-range gearing but does include Selec-Terrain with Auto, Snow, and Sand-Mud traction settings.
Adding the $1,495 destination fee to the Sport’s base price brings the total to $26,490. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at a 3% interest rate works out to a monthly payment of $476. Find a Jeep Compass Sport for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Sport Includes:
- Uconnect 5 information system – Five times faster than the previous Uconnect 5, it provides a 10.1-inch full-color cluster, 8.4-inch touchscreen, multiple USB ports, and a 6-speaker audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
- Lane-keeping assist – Nudges the steering wheel back to center the vehicle in the lane when it senses the vehicle drifting.
- Re-imagined cabin – Jeep completely revamped the Compass interior with a redesigned instrument panel, slimmer HVAC vents, and larger screens.
2022 Jeep Compass Latitude (starting at $26,525)
More than adding standard content, moving up from the Sport grade to Latitude basically opens the path to several option packages. Some appear below.
However, Latitude does bring a few extra standard goodies with it. Building on the Sport’s content, Latitude adds features like 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, and automatic on-off headlights.
Also included in Latitude’s base price are a premium-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob, upgraded seating surfaces, and Keyless Enter ‘N Go.
Adding Jeep Active Drive 4WD costs $1,500.
Spending another $1,495 gets you the Altitude Package. Basically an appearance group, it adds 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels and exterior accents, a black roof, bright exhaust tips, upgraded seat covering and trim, and Piano Black cabin accents.
Jeep hasn’t priced out all of the Compass option packages yet.
Among the added features in the Convenience Group I are an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, 115-volt power port, heated front seats, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and foot-activated power rear liftgate.
To round out the driver aids, you can add the Driver Assist Group I with adaptive cruise control with stop and go, front-rear park assist, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, parallel-perpendicular-park assist, and LED fog lights.
If we were buying the 2022 Jeep Compass, we’d choose the 4WD Latitude with the Convenience and Driver Assist option groups.
Adding the $1,495 destination fee to Latitude’s base price brings the total to $28,020. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $503 per month. Find a Jeep Compass Latitude for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Latitude Includes:
- Automatic on-off headlights – They automatically turn on when the sunlight fades and automatically turn off in brighter conditions.
- Upgraded seating surfaces – The Sport grade’s cloth seats are replaced with vinyl-trimmed seats with cloth inserts.
- Keyless Enter ‘N Go – Also called a proximity key, this feature allows unlocking the doors without touching the key fob as long as the fob is close to the vehicle. It also includes push-button start.
2022 Jeep Compass Latitude LUX (starting at $29,595)
The new Latitude LUX grade comes standard with the Jeep Active Drive.
To the Latitude’s standard content, the Latitude LUX adds 18-inch aluminum wheels, 7-inch full-color digital cluster display, a security alarm, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather seating with perforated inserts.
Also included in the Latitude LUX’s base price are remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and an upgraded Uconnect 5 system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
To pick up more driver aids, you can opt for Driver Assist Group II, which provides the same technologies as Latitude’s Driver Assist Group I package.
Adding the $1,495 destination fee to the Latitude Lux grade’s base price brings the total to $31,090. Financing that with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest brings the total monthly payment to $559. Find a Jeep Compass Latitude LUX for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Latitude LUX Includes:
Full-color digital cluster – Located between the speedometer and tachometer, it’s a programmable display. It can show a variety of information from tire pressure to fuel economy.
Auto-dimming rearview mirror – Using photosensors, it automatically reacts to bright headlights coming up behind you. It adjusts to reduce the reflected light.
Remote start – Using the key fob, you can engage the ignition without being inside the vehicle. In doing so, you can begin heating the interior in winter or cooling it in summer.
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk (starting at $31,395)
The most competent off-roader among the Compass grades, the Trailhawk earned Jeep’s Trail Rated badge.
At the heart of its capability is its standard Jeep Active Drive Low with a 4-Lo gear and a rear locking differential. In the Trailhawk application, the Selec-Terrain adds a Rock mode.
Other equipment increasing Trailhawk’s off-road creds include front-rear skid plates, 8.6 inches of ground clearance, hill-descent control, stiffer off-road suspension, a higher final gear ratio, and red front-rear tow hooks.
In addition to its off-roading extras, the Trailhawk builds on the Latitude LUX trim’s content with adaptive cruise control, turn-signal indicators on the outboard mirrors, and a full-size spare tire.
Other Trailhawk upgrades include rain-sensing wipers, leather-trimmed seats with cloth inserts, and rear parking sensors.
The Trailhawk does lose a few Latitude LUX standard features like remote start, heated front seats, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and perforated leather seating.
With the exception of features standard on Trailhawk, its Driver Assist Group III is the same as the Driver Assist Group II for Latitude Lux.
The Trailhawk also qualifies for the Elite Group I package with all sorts of extras like LED fog lights, LED taillights, heated and ventilated front seats, and Uconnect 5 with navigation.
Adding the $1,495 destination charge to the Trailhawk base price brings the total to $32,890. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at a 3% interest rate brings the monthly payment to $591. Find a 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Includes:
- Active Drive Low – A full-time 4WD system with a 4-Lo gear. Its version of Selec-Terrain adds a Rock mode, which includes downhill descent control.
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC) – After setting the speed, ACC uses some combination of sensors and cameras to keep track of traffic and objects ahead. It automatically brakes and speeds up to maintain a fixed distance with the traffic ahead. Jeep’s version will bring the Compass to a complete stop and then automatically resumes when traffic begins moving again.
- Rain-sensing wipers – Automatically engage when it senses moisture on the windshield. It matches its speed setting to the rate of rain, increasing and decreasing as necessary.
2022 Jeep Compass Limited (starting at $31,395)
As does the Trailhawk, the Limited grade basically builds on the Latitude LUX. However, instead of adding mostly off-road components and technologies, the Limited increases the luxury.
The Limited comes with standard full-time 4WD, but it’s the Active Drive found in lower trim levels and not the Active Drive Low in the Trailhawk.
Standard content over and above that in the Latitude LUX includes 18-inch diamond-cut aluminum wheels, adaptive cruise control, turn-signal indicators on the outboard mirrors, and a windshield wiper deicer.
Among the other upgrades are rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and rear parking sensors.
Pony up another $2,595 for the High Altitude Package and get extras like full premium LED lighting (automatic high-beam projector LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights), 19-inch aluminum wheels, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, and more.
Other option packages include the Driver Assist Group IV, which is similar to the Driver Assist Group III. The Elite Group II is very similar to Trailhawk’s Elite Group I.
Adding the $1,495 destination fee to the Limited’s base price totals $32,890. Financing that with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $591 per month. Find a 2022 Jeep Compass Limited for sale
2022 Jeep Compass Limited Includes:
- Rear-parking sensors – High-frequency sound waves bounced off objects behind the Compass as it backs up are timed on their return to calculate the objects’ distance. When that distance shrinks enough to signal a threat, an alarm sounds.
- Available High Altitude Package – A group of mostly appearance upgrades.
- Dual-Zone Auto Climate Control – The automatic maintaining of separate temperature settings for the left and right zones of the vehicle.
