2022 Nissan Armada: Choosing the Right Trim

Big families need a big vehicle, especially if towing is involved. The 2022 Nissan Armada is just such a vehicle, a full-size SUV with an impressive V8 that gives it best-in-class-horsepower bragging rights.

2022 Nissan Armada Towing Camper in Brilliant Silver Metallic

The all-new 2022 Nissan Armada with a Brilliant Silver Metallic Finish is seen towing a camper up a mountain with its powerful V8 Engine.

Sharing its platform with the Infiniti QX80 gives the Armada access to all manner of luxury and high-tech equipment but in a less-flashy package. The Armada offers 8-passenger seating, a choice of four trims, the option of all-wheel drive, and an 8,500-pound tow rating.

2022 Nissan Armada S (Starting at $48,900)

The Armada S offers buyers a path into the full-size 3-row SUV market without having to break the bank. It’s about a grand under the less powerful Chevrolet Tahoe LS and around $1,500 cheaper than the Ford Expedition XL SXT.

Even with its low price, the 2022 Nissan Armada S comes out of the box with a bevy of standard equipment.

The Armada S rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare as a backup. It also includes LED automatic on/off headlights, heated power-folding side mirrors, and a tow hitch receiver. However, the S trim doesn’t have rear privacy glass, so if that’s a feature you don’t feel like adding yourself, you’ll want to move up to the SV.

When it comes to safety, the Armada offers a wide range of advanced active and passive systems, including 3-row side curtain airbags and driver and front-passenger knee airbags. Rear door alert reminds the driver to check the back seats before leaving the vehicle, while Driver Attention Alert monitors for drowsiness or inattentive driving.

Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 is standard, bringing automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking.

Beyond the Safety Shield 360 package features, the Armada S gets fitted with Intelligent Forward Collision Warning to see two cars ahead. It also gets lane-keeping assist and blind-spot assist that help keep the driver from changing lanes if a collision with another vehicle is possible. A haptic steering wheel that vibrates if the vehicle begins to drift from its lane and adaptive cruise control round out the Armada’s driver assists.

Inside the Armada’s cabin, a 4-speaker stereo seems weak for such a big SUV, but it is attached to infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. The system also includes a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, SiriusXM, NissanConnect, and SiriusXM services, plus a Wi-Fi hotspot (requires subscription). A rearview monitor is standard, along with three 12-volt outlets and four USB charge ports.

The Armada’s impressive list of comfort and convenience features includes a power tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seating, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, 8-way power passenger seat with power lumbar support, and 60/40 split-folding second-row and third-row seats. The rear liftgate isn’t power-operated, but it does feature a power closure feature to ensure you never drive off without the liftgate securely latched.

Armada owners enjoy the convenience of dual-zone automatic climate controls, rear air conditioning with rear controls, one-touch up/down front power windows, extendable sun visors with lighted mirrors, and Nissan’s Intelligent Key with pushbutton start.

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control allows drivers and passengers to set their temperature zones and includes rear A/C controls.
  • Power tilt/telescoping steering wheel – an unusual feature on a base model, the Armada’s power steering wheel allows easy positioning for optimal comfort.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay – allows Apple smartphone integration using Bluetooth rather than unsightly wires.

2022 Nissan Armada SV (Starting at $52,900)

The SV costs a few thousand more than the S, but we think it offers enough desirable equipment to justify the added cost. The SV also opens the door to more factory option packages.

Building off the Armada S, the SV adds rear privacy glass, leatherette upholstered seats, heated front seats, a 6-speaker audio system, and a wireless charging pad.

Trailer brake control, roof rails, and body-colored side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators are also part of the SV upgrade.

Optional is the SV Appearance Package that adds 20-inch 18-spoke alloy wheels, LED foglights, a power liftgate, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and Homelink remote garage door opener.

The SV adds one additional paint color choice: Aspen White Tricoat.

With the $1,495 destination fee, the 2022 Nissan Armada SV costs $54,395. On a 60-month loan at 3% and with no money down, the SV’s monthly payment comes to $977, or about $70 more each month than the lesser-equipped Armada S. See 2022 Nissan Armada SV models for sale

2022 Nissan Armada SL (Starting at $56,710)

The SL trim is the first move toward a more luxurious Armada, and its price reflects it. The SL picks up the SV’s optional equipment and then piles on upholstered leather seats, remote engine start, plus memory for the driver’s seats, power mirrors, and power steering wheel.

Also on the SL’s standard equipment roster is a 360-degree Around View monitor, trailer sway control, 120-volt rear-seat outlet, side-mirror puddle lights, power moonroof, and 13-speaker Bose premium sound system.

The SL adds two additional paint choices: Hermosa Blue Pearl and Mocha Almond Pearl.

Optional on the SL is the Captain’s Chairs Package that adds second-row captain’s chair seating and center console.

The Midnight Edition adds 20-inch 12-spoke alloy wheels, black grille and lower center bumpers, black outside mirrors, black roof rails, black badging, black interior trim and headliner, and Silky carbon interior trim.

With the $1,495 destination fee, the 2022 Nissan Armada SL sells for $58,205. If putting no money down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to $1,046. See 2022 Nissan Armada SL models for sale

  • Power moonroof – can be opened to let in more air or closed when all you need is a little more sunlight.

2022 Nissan Armada Platinum (Starting at $65,300)

The ultimate Armada is the Platinum trim. For the price, you get all the SL’s standard features plus heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, front wiper de-icers, and rain-sensing wipers.

The leather seats are finished in a stunning quilted pattern, while the third-row seat gains a one-touch power-folding feature. A rear-seat entertainment system includes two 8-inch display screens, two wireless headsets, and an HDMI input.

The Platinum gains traffic sign recognition, while the rear backup sensors add Intelligent Backup Collision Intervention. This system goes beyond the standard rear cross-traffic alert by using the surround-view monitor and blind-spot warning lights to alert the driver and applying light brake pressure to slow the vehicle if it detects traffic approaching from the side.

The Platinum rides on massive 22-inch alloy wheels, features illuminated cupholders and includes a camera-operated rearview mirror.

Unique to the Platinum is Coulis Red Pearl paint.

Options for the Platinum trim include the Captain’s Chair seat option and rear entertainment system delete.

With the $1,495 destination fee, the 2022 Nissan Armada Platinum costs $66,795. If putting no money down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to $1,200. See 2022 Nissan Armada Platinum models for sale
