2022 Nissan Maxima: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2022 Nissan Maxima sedan offers a nice blend of luxury and performance, nearing the level of some premium luxury models but without the steep price tag.

The Maxima has always marched to the beat of its own drum. Although it faces stiff competition from cars like the Kia Stinger, Acura TL, and Toyota Avalon, the Maxima has more than a few tricks up its sleeve to lure in customers.

A powerful standard V6 engine is one advantage offered by the Maxima, although enthusiast drivers won’t be happy with the front-drive layout and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Nissan’s largest sedan also comes pretty nicely equipped, with higher trims offering Nissan’s best technology and driver-assist systems.

2022 Nissan Maxima SV (starting at $37,240)

The 2022 Nissan Maxima SV starts at $37,240.

The SV offers buyers content and performance expected of a car costing nearly $40,000 but lacks some of the more upscale touches luxury buyers have come to expect.

Standard on the 2022 Maxima SV are 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high-beam function, LED taillights, DRL (daytime running lights), and power heated side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals.

The Maxima SV includes an impressive list of standard safety systems and driver assists, including the required airbags, electronic traction and stability control systems, and a rearview monitor.

Nissan then adds forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Rear automatic emergency braking can stop the car if it senses an object or vehicle in your path. Rear parking sensors and a rear-seat reminder system are also standard. A driver attention system monitors steering input to detect if the driver is fatigued or nodding off.

Nissan’s Intelligent Cruise Control keeps a set distance between you and the vehicles ahead and can even slow or speed up as traffic patterns change. Traffic Sign Alert watches for speed limit or other traffic signs and alerts the driver by displaying the sign in the car’s driver information screen.  The Maxima SV’s proximity key fob allows access to the vehicle simply by having the fob in your pocket or purse. Once inside, that same fob enables the car to start with just a push of a button. The system also includes a remote start feature that works in conjunction with the climate controls. When temperatures drop below 47 degrees, the system activates the windshield defroster and heated side mirrors while simultaneously placing the ambient outlet temperature above 47 degrees.

SV owners enjoy leather-upholstered seats with contrast stitching on the dash, door panels, console, seats, and steering wheel. A leather-wrapped D-shaped steering wheel that tilts and telescopes includes audio, Bluetooth, and cruise control controls.  Dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and a 4-way power passenger seat are standard.

Infotainment comes courtesy of an 8-inch touch-screen display hosting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, and SiriusXM satellite radio with Advanced Audio features. An eight-speaker premium audio system includes one Type-A and one Type-C USB port, a CD player, and an auxiliary input jack. NisssanConnect services include an available Wi-Fi hotspot, door-to-door navigation, plus SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.

There are no option packages offered, and the only options include a rear spoiler, splash guards, illuminated kickplates, and upgraded 18-inch wheels.

With the $975 destination fee, the 2022 Nissan Maxima SV costs $38,215. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $687. See 2022 Nissan Maxima SV models for sale
