2022 Subaru Forester: Choosing the Right Trim

Four years into its current life cycle, the 2022 Subaru Forester returns with a new front fascia and grille.

Also, the all-new Wilderness grade joins the trim-level lineup between the Sport and Limited grades.

Forester has earned a reputation for being roomy, reliable, safe family transportation on and off the pavement.

All-wheel drive (AWD) with torque vectoring is standard. Yet, it still manages a government-estimated 26 miles per gallon in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg in combined driving.

Every Forester comes with seven airbags and Subaru EyeSight driver aids. Included in the group are forward-collision warning with auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the current-generation Forester a Top Safety Pick+.

For 2022 Subaru offers Forester as the base Forester, Premium, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring grades.

2022 Subaru Forester (Starting at $25,195)

The gateway to the Forester, its base trim is pretty-well equipped. However, we’d step up to the Premium grade for the extra three grand.

If our budget dictated the base trim, we’d spring for the Alloy Wheel Package for an extra $625.

Included in the standard content are 17-inch steel wheels, three 12-volt power ports, auto on/off LED headlights, and automatic climate control.

A tilt-telescopic steering wheel, high-beam assist, and remote keyless entry are also standard.

Included with the infotainment system are 6.5-inch touchscreen, 4-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Bluetooth, two USB ports, and satellite-radio capability are also standard.

As with all Forester trims, the EyeSight package of driver aids is also included.

Adding the $1,125 destination fee to the Forester base price brings the total to $26,320. With no money down, financing that amount for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $473. Find a Subaru Forester for sale.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel and 6-speaker audio system are standard, as well.

Subaru’s SI-DRIVE is standard on Premium and the rest of the upper trims. It’s an engine-management system with Intelligent and Sport modes that allows engine performance to be tuned to a driver’s taste.

For an extra $1,165, you can add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a power liftgate.

Adding the $1,125 destination fee to the Premium base price makes the total $29,320. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $527 per month. Find a 2022 Subaru Forester Premium for sale.

2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness (Starting at $32,820)

All-new for 2022, the Wilderness grade is Forester’s ultimate off-road package. Although it builds on the Sport trim level, many of its unique off-road features don’t carry over to the Limited grade.

Among the unique Wilderness features are a raised suspension, X-MODE, Wilderness exterior styling cues, and Wilderness copper-color-accented interior.

Also among the Wilderness-only content are a lower differential ratio, skid plates, an external air-cooled oil cooler, and raised roof rails.

  • Automatic emergency steering – Adding to the EyeSight collision-avoidance technology, it helps drivers steer around objects at speeds less than 50 miles per hour.

2022 Subaru Forester Limited (Starting at $31,875)

Sort of sidestepping the Wilderness grade, Limited builds on the Sport trim with a couple of exceptions.

For example, it loses the Sport grade’s Sport Sharp SI-DRIVE mode and automatic emergency steering.

Adding to the Sport trim, Limited content includes dual-zone automatic climate control with voice recognition, and perforated leather-trimmed seating.

Also included are a power rear liftgate and upgraded infotainment system featuring an 8-inch touchscreen with voice recognition.

If you spend an extra $1,695, you can pick up a navigation system, the Harman Kardon audio system, reverse automatic braking, and a heated steering wheel.

Adding the $1,125 destination fee to the Limited base price brings the total to $33,000. With no money down, financing that amount for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $593. Find a 2022 Subaru Forester Limited for sale.

  • Power liftgate – Opening with a push of a button, this liftgate also includes a height adjustment.
  • Leather seating – This adds a touch of luxury to this 5-passenger crossover.

2022 Subaru Forester Touring (Starting at $35,295)

The ultimate Forester, Touring offers no options and adds back the automatic emergency steering.

Limited also adds a DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, hand-gesture-control to the climate control system, and 2-position memory for the 10-way power driver’s seat.
