Four years into its current life cycle, the 2022 Subaru Forester returns with a new front fascia and grille.
Also, the all-new Wilderness grade joins the trim-level lineup between the Sport and Limited grades.
Forester has earned a reputation for being roomy, reliable, safe family transportation on and off the pavement.
All-wheel drive (AWD) with torque vectoring is standard. Yet, it still manages a government-estimated 26 miles per gallon in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg in combined driving.

2022 Subaru Forester (Starting at $25,195)
The gateway to the Forester, its base trim is pretty-well equipped. However, we’d step up to the Premium grade for the extra three grand.
If our budget dictated the base trim, we’d spring for the Alloy Wheel Package for an extra $625.
Included in the standard content are 17-inch steel wheels, three 12-volt power ports, auto on/off LED headlights, and automatic climate control.
A tilt-telescopic steering wheel, high-beam assist, and remote keyless entry are also standard.
Included with the infotainment system are 6.5-inch touchscreen, 4-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Bluetooth, two USB ports, and satellite-radio capability are also standard.
As with all Forester trims, the EyeSight package of driver aids is also included.

2022 Subaru Forester Sport Includes:

All-new for 2022, the Wilderness grade is Forester’s ultimate off-road package. Although it builds on the Sport trim level, many of its unique off-road features don’t carry over to the Limited grade.
Among the unique Wilderness features are a raised suspension, X-MODE, Wilderness exterior styling cues, and Wilderness copper-color-accented interior.
Also among the Wilderness-only content are a lower differential ratio, skid plates, an external air-cooled oil cooler, and raised roof rails.
Other standard features include automatic emergency steering, one-touch folding rear seatback, and reverse automatic braking.

2022 Forester Subaru Wilderness Includes:
- Raised suspension – This increases Forester’s ground clearance from 8.7 inches to 9.2 inches.

Sort of sidestepping the Wilderness grade, Limited builds on the Sport trim with a couple of exceptions.
For example, it loses the Sport grade’s Sport Sharp SI-DRIVE mode and automatic emergency steering.
Adding to the Sport trim, Limited content includes dual-zone automatic climate control with voice recognition, and perforated leather-trimmed seating.
