There may not be a large market for small 2-seater sports cars, but the 2023 Audi TT Coupe and TT Roadster make fine choices. Featuring standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a selection of two potent turbocharged engines, the TT pleases driving enthusiasts while having a luxury heritage that places it a step above a Mazda MX-5 Miata and Toyota Supra.
The 2023 Audi TT Coupe and TT Roadster feature a 228-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, unlike some rivals, the TT does not offer the option of a manual transmission.
The TTS, available only in coupe form, ups the horsepower to 288 and brings a few more performance-oriented upgrades.
Primary rivals for the Audi TT include the BMW Z4, Jaguar F-Type, and the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.
2023 Audi TT Coupe: $52,200, TT Roadster: $56,300
The 2023 Audi TT Coupe and TT Roadster convertible don’t leave much to the imagination regarding customization, and we think that’s a good thing. Audi loads the TT with most features buyers want, leaving two styling packages as the only factory options.
A quick walk around the coupe reveals 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season tires, full LED automatic headlights and daytime running lights, heated and auto-dimming power folding side mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers.
The coupe features a hatchback design with an electrically extendable rear spoiler but, surprisingly, no rear wiper or washer. The convertible gets a small trunk and a power-operated acoustic soft-top requiring 10 seconds to retract or put in place. The convertible also features pop-up roll bars and an electrically deployed wind blocker.
Audi Advanced Key is standard on both coupe and convertible, which lets you unlock the doors and start the car without removing the key fob from your purse or pocket.
On the safety front, the TT Coupe comes with front, side-impact, and head curtain airbags, while the TT Roadster comes only with front and side airbags.
Standard driver assists are not all that impressive, omitting such critical systems as forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and lane-keeping assist.
What available equipment comes standard. It includes front and rear parking sensors, a rear backup camera, blind-spot detection, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The TT also comes standard with cruise control, Audi Drive Select driver modes (Comfort, Dynamic, Auto, and Individual), dual-zone automatic climate control, and a flat-bottom tilt/telescopic steering wheel with shift paddles.
Luxuriously soft Nappa leather covers 8-way power adjustable heated sport seats, which include 4-way power lumbar support. Leather also covers the door armrests and center console.
The TT Roadster adds neck-level heating and loses the TT Coupe’s diminutive rear seat.
Audi’s wonderful Virtual Cockpit presents a 12.3-inch digital screen in place of analog gauges. The screen offers several themes, including the ability to host navigation, media, and telephone graphics.
The infotainment system doesn’t get a separate touchscreen, an odd decision that keeps the dash design clean. Still, operating the system requires either the MMI rotary controller with handwriting recognition, steering wheel controls, or voice activation.
Standard infotainment features include navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and an AM/FM radio with, wait for it, a single-slot CD player.
The TT’s standard Bang & Olufsen audio system pumps 680 watts through 12 speakers, a welcome addition when driving with the windows open or the convertible top down.
A wireless charging pad helps keep mobile devices fully charged, although you’ll still have to plug in to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Options for the TT include 19-inch alloy wheels and the S line Competition Package, which adds 19-inch high-gloss anthracite finish wheels, S line interior and exterior styling treatments, a Sport mode for the Virtual Cockpit, leather and Alcantara sport seats, black exhaust tips, and a 3-spoke S line flat-bottom steering wheel.
Also included in the package is an S line suspension lowered 10 millimeters, a fixed rear spoiler in gloss black, and red brake calipers.
With the $1,095 destination charge, the 2023 Audi TT Coupe costs $53,295. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $958. See 2023 Audi TT Coupe and Roadster models for sale near you
