The 2023 Buick Enclave is a few 3-row midsize SUVs that can fit two adults comfortably in the rearmost seat and still have room for cargo behind it! Beyond its efficient design, the Enclave offers Buick-level luxury, style, and quietness. It also comes standard with a potent 310-horsepower V6 engine and available all-wheel drive (AWD).
However, unlike the Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer, the Enclave doesn’t offer the option of a hybrid powertrain, nor does it have as comprehensive a powertrain warranty coverage as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
Also, due to the ongoing chip shortage, certain features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and parking sensors may be deleted from the standard equipment list and retrofitted by the dealer at a later date. Be sure to check with your salesperson about the exact details at purchase.
The Enclave is rated by the EPA at 18 mpg city/26 mph highway/21 mpg combined with front-wheel drive or 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway/20 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.
2023 Buick Enclave Essence (starting at $43,000)
Buick’s 2023 Enclave Essence offers seating for seven, a host of standard safety and driver aids, plus Buick quality and comfort. Although priced higher than some competitor entry-level trims, the Enclave Essence includes a more robust standard equipment list.
The Enclave Essence strikes a formidable pose from the outside, with auto on/off LED headlights, automatic high beams, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Essence features a hands-free foot-activated power rear liftgate with LED projection that shows exactly where to kick your foot under the bumper. Standard keyless entry and start require only having the key fob in your purse or pocket to unlock and start the vehicle.
Other standard features include heated power side mirrors with a driver’s auto-dimming mirror, an acoustic laminated windshield, rear privacy glass, intermittent front wipers, a rear wiper/washer, roof rails, and a rear spoiler.
The Enclave includes a compact spare tire, which we prefer over an inflator-type repair kit.
The Enclave bundles the Essence trim level’s standard driver aids into the Buick Driver Confidence Package Plus. It includes forward-collision warning with low-speed automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, a blind-spot monitor with lane-changing alert, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and a following-distance system that warns if you’re following too close to the vehicle ahead.
Other safety systems include full cabin airbag protection, electronic traction and stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, an HD rear vision camera, rear seat reminder (reminds the driver to check the back seat before leaving the vehicle), and the Safety Alert seat that vibrates to alert the driver as to the direction of a potential collision.
Climb inside the Essence trim, and you’ll find seating for seven, with perforated leather upholstery in the first two rows. The second-row captain’s chair seats include a right-side Smart Slide system for easy third-row access, while the vinyl-covered 60/40 split-folding third-row seats can be laid flat for increased cargo space.
An 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support complements a 6-way power passenger seat also with power lumbar support. Both front seats are heated, as is the tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for the audio, Bluetooth, and cruise.
The Essence includes a remote start feature that can activate the tri-zone automatic climate controls, a wireless charging pad, rear-seat climate controls, and Active Noise Cancelation that helps eliminate unwanted cabin noise.
Other interior features of note include a one-touch up/down power driver’s window and express-down windows for the passengers, a 4.2-inch color driver information screen, a rear defogger, driver and passenger lighted visor vanity mirrors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with built-in universal home remote.
The Essence infotainment system touts an 8-inch color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 3-month trial subscription to SiriusXM 360-L satellite radio, and Siri Eyes Free. The system also offers a Wi-Fi hotspot, access to Buick Connected services, OnStar, and a 6-speaker audio system. You’ll find six USB ports, including two USB charge and data ports up front, with two charge-only ports in each of the second and third rows.
You can upgrade your Enclave Essence by adding The Touring Package, which brings 20-inch wheels and molded assist steps. The Sport Touring (ST) Edition gets gloss black 20-inch wheels, a unique Sport grille, and Sport Touring badges.
The Sound and Site Package adds navigation, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and a 120-volt outlet. In contrast, the Technology Package adds a rear camera mirror with washer, adaptive cruise control, an HD Surround Vision camera, enhanced automatic emergency braking (works at higher speeds, including highway speeds), and rear pedestrian detection. The Experience Buick Package adds 20-inch wheels and a power moonroof with a fixed rear skylight and power sunshade.
There are other packages for towing, cargo management, weather protection, and standalone items like 20-inch wheels and numerous dealer accessories.
All-wheel drive adds another $2,000 to the bottom line.
With the $1,195 destination charge, the 2023 Buick Enclave Essence has a price of $44,195. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to around $794. See 2023 Buick Enclave Essence models for sale
