The compact Jeep Renegade has been pared down to three trim configurations for 2023: Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. All are 4×4 models.
Beyond some changes to the options packages, little has changed with the 2023 Jeep Renegade. It remains a small, boxy crossover SUV with a turbocharged 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine sending a respectable 177 horsepower and 201 lb-ft of torque to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. The torque peaks at only 1,750 rpm, so the engine feels larger than it is.
While it’s the smallest Jeep in the lineup (about the same length as a Hyundai Kona), the Renegade continues to be one of the most capable off-roaders in the compact SUV segment. Moreover, we like its blend of classic Jeep styling and ample modern technology.
The standard safety suite in the Latitude and Limited models, for the record, includes a frontal collision warning system with automatic emergency braking, plus blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-departure warning.
While there is no direct competitor for the 2023 Jeep Renegade, buyers might look at the Mazda CX-30, which isn’t as capable off-road but is more agile and entertaining to drive on city streets. The Ford Bronco Sport is slightly bigger but matches the Renegade’s off-road capability. For the record, the 2023 Renegade has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind its rear seat, plenty for grocery runs or trips to the Home Depot.
The EPA rates the 2023 Jeep Renegade at 23 mpg city/29 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. The Renegade fuel tank is 12.7 gallons. Jeep recommends premium 91-octane gasoline for best performance, but 87-octane fuel is acceptable and will not cause any damage.
Let’s take a look at the three 2023 Jeep Renegade trim levels.
2023 Jeep Renegade Latitude: $29,995
The base Renegade, the Latitude, hits dealers remarkably well-equipped. In addition to cloth seats and a full-time 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system (with no low-range gearing), the Latitude comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control, and a push-button start. You also get heated, power-adjustable mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted glass, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat.
The Renegade Latitude also is equipped with UConnect 4C Nav, an easy-to-use infotainment system featuring an 8.4-inch touchscreen and a 6-speaker audio system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a USB port, and an aux jack.
Available packages on the 2023 Renegade Latitude include the Premium Group, which brings a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, a windshield wiper de-icer, roof rails, and fog lamps.
You can also order your Renegade Platinum as a (RED) Edition, which gets red mirror caps (with integrated turn signals), a body-color roof, black roof rails, 19-inch alloy wheels, and bucket seats covered in black cloth with gray stitching.
Adding the $1,595 destination fee to the Latitude base price equals $31,590. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to approximately $568 per month. See 2023 Jeep Renegade Latitude models for sale near you
2023 Jeep Renegade Latitude includes:
- Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-and-forget system, it allows both front passengers to select their preferred temperatures.
- Safety suite – We like how the base Renegade, the Latitude, has a forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- All-wheel drive – We also like how the Latitude has full-time 4WD, although the system does not have low-range gearing. However, it has Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud drive modes.
2023 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk: $31,945
If you plan to use your Renegade off-road, get the Trailhawk. This trim level has several features that make it significantly more capable on rough trails.
These include an improved 4×4 system with low-range gearing, plus a Selec-Terrain system with a dedicated Rock mode. The Renegade Trailhawk has 0.7 inches of extra ground clearance, underbody skid plate protection, and tow hooks.
The approach angle, breakover angle, and departure angle of the Trailhawk are better than those of the standard Renegade. Part of this relates to its taller tires–Falken WildPeak H/Ts, which, at 215/65R-17, are a bit taller than the 215/60R-17s on the standard Renegade.
What else distinguishes the Trailhawk? Inside, it has a 7-inch digital instrument panel, premium cloth upholstery (with embroidered Trailhawk logos), a leather-wrapped shift knob, and an extra USB port on the back of its center console. It also gets a low-gloss hood decal to reduce glare.
Strangely, the 2023 Jeep Renegade Traihawk lacks forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, two safety technologies that are standard on the other Renegade trims.
If you want leather upholstery, a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats, they are all part of the available Trailhawk Elite Group option package. LED headlamps, taillights, and fog lamps also can be ordered as part of the Premium Lighting Group.
Other option packages on the 2023 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk include the Sun and Sound Group (which features a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a 9-speaker sound system) and a Trailer Tow Package, which has a Class III hitch receiver and a 4-pin wiring harness. Thus equipped, the Renegade Trailhawk can tow 2,000 pounds. Trailer sway control is standard.
Adding the $1,595 destination fee to the Trailhawk’s base price equals $33,240. Financing with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to approximately $597 monthly. See 2023 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk models for sale near you
2023 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk includes:
- Rock mode – Part of the upgraded AWD system and accessible only in low range, Rock mode maximizes traction and increases steering assist while negotiating slow, rock-strewn trails.
- Hill Descent Control – Standard on the Trailhawk, Hill Descent Control allows you to go down steep dirt hills without touching the brakes. You must trust the vehicle, which controls all braking with a deft touch.
- Skid plates – The Trailhawk has metal underbody plates protecting the transmission (in front) and the fuel tank (in back).
2023 Jeep Renegade Limited: $32,845
If you’re not looking for extra off-road ability but would prefer instead to have the most luxurious Renegade, the Limited should be your choice.
Equipped with the standard 4×4 system with no low-range gearing, the Renegade Limited comes standard with adaptive cruise control and an interior featuring black leather upholstery (with gray stitching), a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and ambient interior lighting.
On the outside, you can identify the Renegade Limited by its burnished chrome grille, gloss-black rearview mirrors, black roof, and available 19-inch alloy wheels wearing wider 235/45R-19 all-season tires.
Three option packages enhance the Limited’s luxury quotient.
The Limited Elite Group brings an automatic parking program for parallel and perpendicular parking spots. It also has LED headlights, taillights, and LED cornering fog lamps.
The High Altitude Package brings 19-inch wheels to the Renegade Limited, plus gloss-black badges and gray grille rings. Last, there’s the Sun and Sound Group. Also available in the Trailhawk, it includes a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a 9-speaker audio system with a subwoofer.
There aren’t many individual options on the 2023 Jeep Renegade Limited, but upgraded paint colors, such as Colorado Red Clear Coat and Solar Yellow Clear Coat, are available for $495.
Adding the $1,595 destination fee to the Limited’s base price equals $34,440. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to approximately $619 per month. See 2023 Jeep Renegade Limited models for sale near you
2023 Jeep Renegade Limited Includes:
- Leather seating – The Limited is the only Renegade with standard leather seat upholstery, in black with gray accent stitching.
- Adaptive cruise control – This standard feature allows the Limited to maintain a constant gap to the vehicle ahead on the highway, slowing or accelerating the vehicle as needed with traffic flow.
- Digital gauge cluster – Like the Trailhawk, the Renegade Limited has a 7-inch digital gauge cluster.
