2023 Porsche Macan: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Porsche Macan brings Porsche performance and technology to a compact luxury crossover. It’s perfect for enthusiasts who don’t need a big SUV. Porsche offers the Macan in four trims, each dedicated to a specific buyer. Porsche also offers a staggering list of optional upgrades, allowing personalization on a level no competitor can match.

While pricier than competitors like the Audi Q5, BWM X3, Acura RDX, and Mercedes-Benz GLC, this Porsche, to many buyers, is worth the extra cost. For the record, the Macan is the best-selling Porsche in the U.S.

2023 Porsche Macan (starting at $57,500)

The most affordable Macan is also the least powerful. It comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Like all Macan trims, the base model comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The Macan has many electronic traction, stability, and torque management systems, including trailer sway control.

The Macan also features speed-sensitive power steering and driver mode controls for Sport and Off-Road.

Standard on the Macan are 19-inch wheels fitted with summer tires, plus power heated and auto-dimming folding side mirrors, a power liftgate, rain-sensing two-speed wipers, and LED headlights featuring Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS).

The PDLS headlights not only turn in the direction of the steering wheel but can adjust the beam’s range depending on driving speed.

On the safety front, the Macan includes a host of driver assists, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a rear backup camera, and adaptive cruise control.

With the key fob in your purse or pocket, Porsche’s Entry and Drive allows unlocking the doors by simply touching the handle (and the liftgate by placing your hand near the Porsche logo at the rear of the vehicle). Once inside, a push of a button is all that’s needed to start the Macan.

Comfort and convenience amenities include 8-way power-adjustable heated front seats covered in partial leather and Sport-Tex cloth inserts. Also standard are 3-zone automatic climate control (with separate settings for front and rear passengers, a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel with paddle shifters, and an analog instrument cluster with a central tachometer and a 4.8-inch digital information screen.

The Porsche Communication Management system includes a 10.9-inch touchscreen display with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Siri integration. Android Auto is still unavailable in any Macan.

Porsche Connect Plus apps offer numerous perks, including a Wi-Fi hot spot, stolen vehicle locator, and remote services.

The Macan’s standard audio system includes 10 speakers and a 150-watt amp.

Options for the Macan are numerous. They include 11 paint colors, 18 different wheels, partial or full leather interior and trim, 14-way power front seats with memory, and 18-way adaptive sport seats.

Buyers can also choose an $11,430 Paint to Sample option, opening the door to even more colors, including several historic Porsche paint colors. There are also dozens of minor interior color and fabric upgrades, covering everything from seatbelt color to a painted ignition starter switch.

Through various packages, buyers can add a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane change assist, traffic jam assist, automatic high beam headlights, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

Performance upgrades include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and a sport exhaust. Porsche Surface Coated Brakes are harder than steel rotors, with a tungsten carbide coating so strong it can cut glass.

The Sport Chrono Package adds an analog and digital stopwatch, Sport Plus mode, launch control, and a Sport Response button for a temporary 20-second boost in performance.

Comfort and assistance options include a heated windshield, a self-parking assistant, a 360-degree Surround View monitor, rear door sunshades, a heated steering wheel, and various wood, aluminum, and carbon-fiber interior accents.

FAQ

  • What is the best 2023 Porsche Macan trim?

While the new 2023 Porsche Macan T offers some cool features, we think the Macan S is the best choice. It provides the kind of power expected of a vehicle wearing the Porsche crest, yet its price isn’t all that much higher than the Macan T.

Regardless of which Macan trim you choose, the price climbs quickly as soon as you start adding options.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2023 Porsche Macan get?

The base 2023 Porsche Macan is rated by the EPA at 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway/21 mpg combined. The Macan T should post similar numbers.

With the Macan S, EPA fuel economy drops to 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway/19 mpg combined.

As for the powerful Macan GTS, it’s nearly as efficient as the Macan S, returning 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg combined.

  • Which 2023 Porsche Macan trim offers the most safety?

To date, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the Macan. However, it shares much of its structure with the Audi Q5, which gets excellent crash test results.

To ensure your best chance of avoiding an accident, we suggest opting for additional diver assists such as the blind-spot monitor and lane-keeping assist.
