In the 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid, Toyota adds hybrid fuel efficiency and standard all-wheel drive (AWD) to a stylish subcompact SUV starting at around $27,000. Toss in legendary Toyota quality and resale values, and it’s a good bet the Corolla Cross Hybrid will fly off showroom floors faster than toilet paper in a pandemic.
Toyota offers the Corolla Cross Hybrid in three trims: S, SE, and XSE. Each provides specific features for a particular buyer, but even a loaded XSE barely breaks the $35,000 mark.
The Corolla Cross Hybrid gets better gas mileage figures than its gasoline-only counterpart and has more power. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and electric motors develop 194 horsepower. That’s 27 more horsepower than the standard Corolla Cross, enough to move the little SUV from a snail’s pace to a satisfactory performer.
Toyota claims a 0-60 mph time of eight seconds, which is in line with competitors like the Subaru Crosstrek and Kia Niro Hybrid, neither of which directly match the Corolla Cross Hybrid’s features (Subaru is discontinuing the hybrid Crosstrek, and the Niro doesn’t offer AWD).
