2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale: Choosing the Right Trim

While Americans are still warming to Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S. market, the Italian automaker is making it easier to fall in love, offering seductively designed vehicles like the all-new 2024 Tonale compact luxury SUV.

The Tonale offers a choice of three trims: Sprint, Ti, and Veloce. Ti and Veloce will be the first trims available, with the Sprint arriving in the spring.

The Tonale’s standard powertrain consists of a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) develops 285 horsepower and can travel up to 30 miles solely on electric power. All-wheel drive comes standard, as does a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Slightly longer than competitors like the BMW X1 and Cadillac XT4, the Tonale offers compact dimensions and a roomy and luxurious cabin. Other luxury brands for comparison include the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and Lexus NX, although only the NX has a PHEV variant.

As of January 2023, the IRS says a purchased Tonale doesn’t qualify for a $7,500 tax credit. But if you’re leasing one, it does.

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint: $42,995

The Sprint is the most affordable of the three Tonale trims. For an entry-level model, it comes surprisingly well-equipped.

The Sprint features 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED Trilobo headlights, LED fog lamps, power-folding heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, heated washer nozzles, keyless enter and go, a body-colored rear spoiler, and remote start.

The Sprint has a long list of standard safety and driver-assist systems, including full-speed forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist protection, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Additional standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane-centering, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear backup camera, and an onboard system that detects when the driver is drowsy.

The Sprint’s cabin is sporty and refined, with standard amenities like heated 8-way power front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, a leather-wrapped heated tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate controls.

Sport Cloth upholstery with Biscotto stitching adds to the environment, as do the 60/40-split folding rear seats with pass-through, rear air vents, a push-button starter, and one-touch up/down power windows.

The Tonale’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster features various screen configurations, including the ability to display navigation directions, charge and power modes, and adaptive cruise control settings.

The Sprint’s infotainment setup consists of a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 6-speaker audio system. Included with the Uconnect 5 system are GPS navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, voice-activated commands, and Amazon Alexa.

A wireless charging pad is standard.

Over-the-air updates and Alfa Romeo connected services are included, some of which may require a subscription.

Options for the Sprint include 19-inch wheels, an oversized power moonroof, and the Active Assist Advanced Package, which adds Level 2 autonomy with Traffic Jam Assist, parallel and perpendicular parking assistant, 360-degree parking sensors, a Surround View camera, and traffic sign recognition.

White paint is the only no-charge option; all other options add between $500 and $2,200 to the bottom line, depending on color.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint costs $44,590. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $841. See 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint models for sale near you

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint includes:

  • Plug-in hybrid powertrain – The Tonale’s standard PHEV system provides exceptional power and fuel economy, with the ability to cover 30 miles without using a drop of gas.
  • Heated everything – It’s rare when an entry-level model comes with heated seats, but the Sprint also gets heated side mirrors, heated washer nozzles, and a heated steering wheel.
  • Adaptive LED headlights – The Tonale’s unique Trilobo adaptive headlights feature three lenses per side with the ability to direct light where and when needed.

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti: $44,995

The Ti brings a few more standard features and more option packages.

Building off the Sprint, the Ti adds 18-inch Black Diamond cut wheels, a gloss black body kit, a power liftgate, ambient interior lighting, a media hub with dual USB ports, and a bright center grille surround.

Optional packages include the Active Assist Advanced Package (see Sprint options) and the High-Performance Driving Package, which adds aluminum paddle shifters, aluminum pedals, and red Brembo brakes.

The Premium Interior Package adds leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. In contrast, the Premium Interior and Sound Package add leather, ventilated front seats, driver’s seat memory, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio upgrade.

Twenty-inch Grigio wheels are also available.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti costs $46,590. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $879. See 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti models for sale near you

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti includes:

  • Power liftgate – This makes loading and unloading much easier, especially when it’s cold, raining, or you’re approaching the back of the Tonale with your arms full.
  • Ambient interior lighting – Ambient dash lighting in various colors adds another level of sophistication to an already elegant interior.
  • Available Brembo brakes – Brembo brakes allow the Tonale Ti to stop faster and better resist fade after repeated use.

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce: $47,495

The Tonale Veloce is the most luxurious and performance-oriented trim, hence its price.

Building off the Ti, the Veloce adds 19-inch Diamond Cut 5-hole wheels, aluminum steering wheel paddle shifters, ambient interior lighting, dual chrome exhaust tips, red Brembo brake calipers, and an adaptive dual-mode suspension.

Perforated Alcantara upholstery replaces cloth.

Option packages mirror those of the Sprint and Ti, minus the High-Performance Driving Package, which is already included in the Veloce’s standard equipment.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce costs $49,090. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $926. See 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce Sprint models for sale near you

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce includes:

  • Adaptive suspension – Automatically adjusts the shock damping over various road surfaces, assuring maximum control and stability without loss of ride comfort.
  • Alcantara upholstery – An excellent choice if you don’t like cloth or leather. Soft and supple Alcantara upholstery holds you better than leather and doesn’t get as hot in the summer.
  • Available 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio – The Harman Kardon audio upgrade represents a significant improvement over the standard 6-speaker system and is a must-have for music lovers.

FAQ

  • What is the best 2024 Alfa Romeo trim?

We like the Tonale in Ti trim. It offers more features than the Sprint, plus more optional equipment.

However, the base Tonale Sprint is an excellent value if you can live without leather seats, a Harman Kardon stereo, and a power liftgate.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2024 Alpha Romeo get?

EPA fuel economy figures are not yet available, but Alfa Romeo says the Tonale can travel up to 30 miles in EV mode and 320 miles total range using gas and electric power. Alfa says it expects a combined EPA rating of 75 MPGe.

Using a Level II charger, the Tonale takes about two and a half hours to reach full charge.

  • Which 2024 Alpha Romeo trim offers the most safety?

We’re still waiting on crash test scores, but we feel reasonably confident the Tonale will pass with flying colors. We highly recommend opting for the Active Assist Advanced Package for its other driver-assist systems.
