The 7 Series competes with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and Genesis G90.

What’s New:
The powertrain options are expanded for 2024. The 740i model is now available with the xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, and there’s a new 750e xDrive model. The 750e xDrive uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain that offers a middle ground between the gas-only 7 Series and the all-electric i7.
Our Recommendation:
The base BMW 740i model is so well-equipped that you’re not missing out on much. Simply pick your options and decide if AWD is worth the extra $3,000.

2024 BMW 740i: $96,400
The BMW 740i is so nice that it’s almost unfair to call it a “base model.” This is a case in which going with the most affordable trim isn’t much of a compromise.
Power comes from a mild-hybrid turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, rated at 375 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s worth noting that this is the only rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant of the 7 Series.
The 740i has a generous list of standard luxury and tech features. It has adaptive LED headlights, Veganza synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, 4-zone automatic climate control, and adaptive air suspension.
The BMW Curved Display houses a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch central information display. The multifunction iDrive 8 infotainment system has navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM. Other desirable tech features that come standard in the 740i include a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad.
Standard driver assistance and safety tech features are highlighted by lane-departure warning, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and a front collision warning with city collision mitigation braking.
An available Premium Package ($1,750) primarily adds more driver assistance features. It has an illuminated kidney grille, autonomous parking, a surround-view 3D camera, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering.
The Executive Package ($4,600) makes the 2024 BMW 740i even fancier with crystal headlights (from Svaroski), automatic doors, massaging and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated armrests.
One of our favorite option packages is the Driving Assistance Professional Package ($2,500). It expands on the safety tech of the 7 Series with the Active Driving Assistant Pro system, active lane-keeping assist with side collision avoidance, hands-free driving on some closed access highways, automatic lane-change, and evasion assistant.
A Luxury Rear Seating Package ($3,000) does what its name implies. It adds power rear seats that are vented and have a massage function. Heated rear seats already come standard. The M Sport Professional Package ($950) adds M Sport brakes (which you can get individually for $650), extended Shadowline trim, and a rear spoiler.
The BMW Individual Composition Package ($7,300) lets you customize the 740i interior with options like carbon-fiber trim, open-pore wood trim, Merino leather, an Alcantara headliner, and more.
Notable individual options include ventilated front seats ($500), a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound audio system ($4,800), a 31-inch-wide BMW Theater Screen ($4,750) in the rear, and an anthracite Alcantara headliner ($1,050).
