Hot on the heels of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV arrives just in time to keep electrified Chevy faithful from leaving the flock.
The Silverado EV doesn’t look like its gas-powered cousin, instead getting a more aerodynamic front end and long flying buttress extensions between the cab and bed. It has styling vaguely reminiscent of the old Avalanche pickup, but we think buyers will like it.
The Silverado EV also reincarnates the Avalanche’s split-folding midgate, creating a cargo pass into the passenger compartment. With the Multi-Flex tailgate folded down, the Silverado EV’s total bed length reaches 10 feet, 10 inches.
The Silverado EV uses the same architecture that underpins the GMC Hummer pickup: GM’s Ultium platform and battery pack. GM promises a range of 400 miles and the ability to attain about 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes using a DC fast charging station. A 350-kW max charge rate dwarfs the F-150 Lightning, which is limited to just 155 kW.
Dual electric motors mean all-wheel drive (AWD) comes standard, and Chevy says the Silverado EV will offer up to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, with the ability to tow up to 10,000 pounds and haul up to 1,300 pounds of payload.
Currently, only two trims are available: an entry-level Work Truck (WT) and a top-of-the-line RST First Edition. Chevrolet promises to flush out the rest of the lineup as soon as possible, but that will likely hinge on chip and supply availability and initial interest.
GM says the Silverado EV will qualify for the government’s $7,500 tax credit.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT: $39,900
The basic Silverado EV WT may seem an odd starting point for an electric pickup truck, but it makes perfect sense as GM primarily sells these trucks as fleet vehicles. Many municipalities are moving to electric vehicles to save money on fuel, making the WT an ideal fit.
Starting at $39,900, the WT touts 510 hp and a max tow rating of 8,000 pounds. However, later in the model year, Chevrolet will introduce a Max Trailer Package that increases towing to 20,000 pounds.
The only WT configuration is a Crew Cab short bed. Because there’s no drive shaft, engine, or transmission, Chevrolet can configure the Silverado EV’s cab design to create a more spacious rear seat with an additional inch of legroom versus the gas-powered Silverado. It also makes possible a front trunk, or “eTrunk,” as Chevy calls it.
The lockable eTrunk is weatherproof, so putting equipment or valuables inside is safe without fear of the weather outside. It features drain plugs if you decide to use the eTrunk to hold wet gear or ice. There’s also a single 120-volt AC outlet, in case you need power for tools, lights, or just recharging your laptop.
The WT features a 5-foot, 11-inch bed with four 120-volt AC outlets and one 240-volt AC outlet. When equipped with the available accessory power bar, the WT offers up to 10 outlets, providing 10.2 kW of electric power for tools, toys, and even the ability to power your home.
It’s uncertain if the RST’s available midgate folding bulkhead will be offered on the WT, but if it is, the WT’s bed length will increase to just over 9 feet (or 10 feet, 10 inches with the available Multi-Flex tailgate with load stop).
On the safety front, the WT features the Chevy Assist Package, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, an HD Surround Vision camera, rear cross-traffic braking, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights.
The WT’s exterior is pretty simple, with lots of black plastic cladding around the bumpers, wheel arches, and lower rocker panels. Seventeen-inch black alloy wheels are standard, with more practical steel wheels offered after the initial release. LED headlights and taillights provide superior light while minimizing power consumption.
The WT cabin is equally basic, although it will have features like power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and a digital instrument cluster. An 11.3-inch touchscreen handles media and infotainment. We expect it will also offer access to Android Auto but not Apple CarPlay, as GM has been working with Google to develop an in-house infotainment system.
With the $1,695 destination charge, the 2024 Silverado EV WT will cost $41,595. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $785. See 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT models for sale near you
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT includes:
- 400-mile range – The Silverado EV’s Ultium battery and 350-kW charge capacity mean it can travel farther than an F-150 Lightning or Rivian R1T and charge faster.
- Chevy Safety Assist – A comprehensive package of driver-aid systems keeps you safe whether on the road or just backing out from a tight parking spot.
- Digital screens – The WT’s digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen put information front and center, making it easy to pick and choose the features most important to the driver.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition: $105,000
The First Edition RST is about as different from the WT as ground beef is from prime rib. Almost every available feature will come standard on the RST, with a few options to help raise the price above the $105,000 starting point.
The RST will offer up to 754 hp and a 10,000-pound tow rating.
Exterior styling upgrades include larger wheels up to 24 inches and more panels covered in paint. A fixed panoramic glass roof will make the cabin feel open and airy.
An available Multi-Flex tailgate operates like a standard tailgate but offers numerous iterations. It can serve as a step into the bed, drop a full 180 degrees down, or lay flat with a flip-up load stop that effectively increases the bed length to over 10 feet.
Like the Hummer EV upon which it shares components, the RST features 4-wheel steering. A future Trail Boss version may even go as far as to add the Hummer’s Crab Walk feature, which uses the 4-wheel steering to move the vehicle sideways if desired.
The RST includes adaptive air suspension to smooth the ride over rough pavement and rugged trails. It also can raise or lower the truck by two inches, making it easier to load people and cargo.
Additional features standard on the RST include a split Multi-Flex folding midgate bulkhead, an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17-inch touchscreen display, and a 14-inch head-up display.
The RST includes a keyless entry system activated by a fob or an app that turns a user’s smartphone into a key. When you approach, the truck senses your presence and projects welcome lighting onto the ground.
Once inside, a vivid 3D animation appears on the 17-inch touchscreen, and the vehicle turns on automatically, negating the need for a push-button or other driver-activated starting system.
A massive modular center console has just over seven gallons of capacity, which can fit everything from a lunch cooler to a laptop.
Like all top-line Chevy trucks, the Silverado EV RST is expected to include power-adjustable seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a high-end premium audio system.
We know that GM’s Super Cruise autonomous driving system is part of the RST’s standard equipment, with the ability to operate even when towing a trailer. Super Cruise can now pilot on over 400,000 miles of compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada.
With the $1,695 destination charge, the 2024 Silverado RST First Edition will cost $106,695. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $2,013. See 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition models for sale near you
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition includes:
- 4-wheel steering – With the ability to turn all four wheels, the RST’s turning radius is significantly tighter than a conventional front-steer truck’s.
- Folding midgate – The Multi-Flex folding midgate expands the truck’s bed into the cab, helping to negate the need for an extended bed model.
- Super Cruise – GM’s autonomous driving system lets you take your hands off the wheel (but not your eyes off the road) on more than 400,000 miles of highway in North America. The system can steer, brake, accelerate, and change lanes without driver intervention. It even works when pulling a trailer.
