The Ford Ranger is a midsize pickup that slots between the compact Maverick and full-size F-150 in the Ford lineup. The Ranger is for drivers who want the capability of a real, body-on-frame pickup truck but in a more maneuverable, efficient, and affordable package than a full-size truck.
Available exclusively as a SuperCrew model with a 5-foot bed, the Ford Ranger is all-new for 2024. Also new for 2024 is one of its top rivals, the Toyota Tacoma. Tough competition also comes from the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Nissan Frontier, all of which have received significant updates in recent years.
What’s New:
The Ford Ranger enters an all-new generation for the 2024 model year.
Our Recommendation:
For most truck shoppers, the midrange XLT trim is the best buy in the Ranger lineup. It starts at under $40K, comes with the Ford Co-Pilot360 safety tech suite, and has many options available, including a potent turbo V6 engine.

2024 Ford Ranger XLT: $36,005
The midrange Ford Ranger XLT trim is our recommendation for most shoppers. It offers many standard features for its price, plus plenty of options.
The turbo 4-cylinder engine and RWD are still standard, but a 2.7-liter turbo V6 is optional. Shared with the Bronco and F-150, this powerful engine generates 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive is a $3,485 option for the XLT trim.
Standard features on the Ranger XLT include LED headlights, taillights, fog lights, and bed lighting, 400W in-bed power, a manual sliding rear window, premium cloth seats, a wireless charging pad, remote start, and navigation with a limited trial.
One of the biggest reasons we recommend the XLT trim is the Ford Co-Pilot360 system. This safety tech, standard on the XLT, includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, reverse brake assist, and a digital rearview camera.
The standard Sport Appearance Package includes 17-inch aluminum wheels and gray-painted exterior trim. A Chrome Appearance Package can be selected as a no-cost option instead.
The 301A equipment group ($945) adds several desirable features to the Ranger XLT. These include heated, power-adjustable front seats, a power sliding rear window, a 12-inch infotainment screen, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
We like the Technology Package. For $1,560, you get full-speed adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, enhanced Active Park Assist, and three years of navigation. An Advanced Towing Package ($825) adds the Trailer Tow Package, a trailer brake controller, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. You can bundle both as the Advanced Towing Package Plus Technology Package ($2,305) with a small price break if you want both.
The FX4 Off-Road Package ($1,295) can be ordered on 4WD-equipped models. It adds off-road tires, an electronic-locking rear differential, skid plates, off-road suspension, the Terrain Management System (off-road drive modes), and Trail Control (low-speed cruise control for off-roading).
A cool option not available on the Ranger XL is an integrated box side step for $215.
With the $1,595 destination fee, the 2024 Ford Ranger XLT costs $37,600. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $710. See 2024 Ford Ranger XLT models for sale near you
