The sixth-generation Honda CR-V was entirely new for 2023, offering a roomier interior, more technology, and a choice of gasoline or gasoline/electric hybrid powertrains. Little therefore has changed with the hot-selling compact SUV for 2024.
With one exception: Honda has created an additional trim level: the Sport-L. This new CR-V Sport-L, a third hybrid trim, prices above the EX-L but below the Sport Touring flagship.
For 2024, that means six CR-V trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Sport Touring. All-wheel drive (AWD) is a $1,500 option on each, apart from the Sport Touring trim on which it is standard.
The LX, EX, and EX-L trim are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 190 horsepower. The CR-V Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring trims are all hybrids, each using a 2.0-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. The combined output for the CR-V hybrid is 204 hp. It also produces significantly more torque than the 1.5-liter mill and offers considerably better fuel economy.
How much better? The front-wheel-drive (FWD) Honda CR-V Sport-L hybrid, the most fuel-efficient of the bunch, returns EPA fuel economy figures of 43 mpg city/36 mpg highway/40 mpg combined. The most fuel-efficient non-hybrid 2024 Honda CR-V are the three FWD trims rated at 28 mpg city/34 mpg highway/30 mpg combined.
Interestingly, more than 50% of current Honda CR-V sales are hybrid electric models. Honda’s best-selling SUV, the CR-V, competes with a heady cast of characters, most notably the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sportage, Ford Escape, and Subaru Forester.

What’s New:
The Honda CR-V carries over into the 2024 model year with no significant changes. The one exception: An all-new Sport-L hybrid trim level has been added to the lineup.
Our Recommendation:
First and foremost, we’d choose one of the CR-V hybrids, as they offer the best of both worlds: more power and better fuel economy. Of the three available 2024 Honda CR-V hybrids, we’d choose the entry Sport model because it’s attractively priced but still well-equipped.

2024 Honda CR-V LX: $29,500 (FWD), $31,000 (AWD)
The Honda CR-V LX represents a lot of vehicle for less than $30,000.
It comes standard with the 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that sends 190 hp to the front or all four wheels. All-wheel drive, which adds only $1,500 to the bottom line, is a smart play, especially if you live in areas with inclement weather.
The CR-V LX has Econ, Normal, and Snow driving modes also. These tailor the throttle, transmission, and traction control settings for best performance in a variety of driving conditions.
Safety, naturally, comes front and center. The 2024 Honda CR-V LX comes equipped with Honda Sensing, a safety suite that includes a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning and mitigation. Strangely, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic detection are unavailable on the LX, even as options.
Also notable: The LX, the base CR-V, even has adaptive cruise control, which automatically maintains the gap to the vehicle in front of you on the highway. It’s complemented by low-speed follow, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. Also standard is Traffic Jam Assist, which keeps the CR-V in its lane and at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
Safety is further addressed with automatic high-beam headlights, a multiview rearview monitor, and automatic brake hold, which keeps the CR-V stationary at red lights, so you don’t have to keep your foot on the brake.
Other standard LX hardware includes 17-inch steel wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, LED side mirror turn indicators, and remote keyless entry.
Inside, you’ll find cloth upholstery, height-adjustable manual front seats, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. In addition to a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with buttons for the cruise, audio, and Bluetooth, you get a push-button starter, one-touch up/down power front windows, and automatic single-zone air conditioning.
The audio system features a 160-watt 4-speaker stereo with a 7-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support it, as do Bluetooth streaming and HondaLink apps. You’ll also find a single 2.5-amp USB-A data port in the front console.
Other than AWD, no options are available on the 2024 Honda CR-V LX. There are, however, several dealer-installed accessories that can be ordered.

2024 Honda CR-V EX: $32,010 (FWD), $33,510 (AWD)
The CR-V EX improves on the LX in several ways. Notable upgrades include a power moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, rear privacy glass, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an extra USB port in the front center console.
You also get a reverse-activated rear wiper and a proximity key fob that lets you unlock the doors by touching the door handle. You can then start the EX by pressing a button on the dash. The EX also has a remote start, which allows you to fire up your CR-V from the comfort of your living room on a chilly morning, and even set the climate control to your liking before hopping in. Added safety systems include a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic detection.
The EX’s spacious cabin features heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and a reclining 60/40-split folding rear seat with a center armrest.
Additional interior features for the EX trim level include Active Noise Cancellation, LED map lights, sliding sun visors, LED cargo lights, and a configurable 7-inch digital gauge cluster.
Also notable: The 2024 Honda CR-V EX gets a better stereo, a 240-watt unit with six speakers.

2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid: $33,350 (FWD), $34,850 (AWD)
The 2024 CR-V Sport drops the turbo 1.5-liter gasoline engine in favor of a more powerful and significantly more fuel-efficient hybrid setup that uses a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) remains standard, as does FWD. AWD is optional.
As you might expect, the Sport has a Sport driving mode for a snappier response. It also gets 18-inch black alloy wheels, Sport interior cloth seating, gloss-black exterior accents, and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel. The CR-V Sport also gets two USB-C charging ports for the back seat.
One notable difference compared to the non-hybrid CR-V models: The Sport is equipped with a tire repair kit, not a space-saver spare.

The CR-V EX-L, which arrived in the middle of the 2023 model year, has the EX’s turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and CVT but adds more safety and convenience equipment, such as low-speed brake control.
In Honda speak, “L” means leather, which graces this CR-V’s seats, steering wheel, and shift knob.
Additional EX-L niceties include front and rear parking sensors, a power tailgate, one-touch up/down power rear windows, a 4-way power passenger seat, and 2-position memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors.
Also significant: The EX-L’s infotainment gets a 9-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, a wireless charging pad, and a 320-watt audio system with eight speakers.

Additional CR-V Sport Touring equipment includes ambient interior lighting, rain-sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel, and HondaLink subscription services, which, among many other things, automatically contacts emergency services in the event of an accident and even lets you use your smartphone to lock or unlock your vehicle remotely.
