The 2024 Kia EV9 is a 3-row SUV about the same size as the gas-powered Kia Telluride. The EV9 offers 6- or 7-passenger seating, modern technology, and safety aids, plus Kia’s impressive 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The difference between the two is how they get around. You see, the EV9 is the first full-size electric SUV from Kia, with two battery pack choices, rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), and five trims: Light, Light Long Range, Wind, Land, and GT-Line.
The Light uses a 76.1-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and a single electric motor powering the rear wheels. It produces 215 horsepower and claims a range of around 230 miles. The Light Long Range gets a larger 99.8 kWh battery but drops output to 201 hp. The tradeoff results in a longer range of 304 miles.
The Wind, Land, and GT-Line all come with Kia’s e-AWD system with two electric motors producing 379 hp and the option to provide additional torque through a momentary boost feature. The range for these models varies according to trim, with the Wind and Land traveling an estimated 280 miles and the GT-Line 270 miles. The RWD Light and Light Long Range are tow-rated up to 2,000 pounds, while the AWD models can pull up to 5,000 pounds.
Not many competitors offer the same size and price as the EV9, but in the ballpark are electric vehicles (EVs) like the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQB, Volvo EX90, and Rivian R1S.

What’s New:
The 2024 Kia EV9 debuted this year, so everything is new.
Our Recommendation:
We’d pick the Wind and add a few options. We like this trim for its combination of range, power, traction, and features. Those who don’t need AWD and care more about range should look to the Light Long Range.

2024 Kia EV9 Light: $54,900
The entry-level Light doesn’t seem like the best choice in our eyes. Sure, it offers a tempting price, but its limited range of 230 miles makes us think it might be optimal for those who only plan to use their SUV in and around town. If that sounds like you, read on. Otherwise, you might want to jump other Light Long Range or Wind trims.
Powered by its rear wheels, the EV9 Light uses a 76.1-kWh battery and a single electric motor producing 215 hp. It can sprint to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds and achieve an 80% charge in about 20 minutes using a high-output (350-kilowatt) DC fast charging station.
As with all Kia vehicles, the EV9 has the latest driver safety and assist features. Kia’s Drive Wise suite includes forward collision avoidance with junction turning and junction crossing (warns of danger when making a left turn across oncoming traffic or crossing an intersection), a blind-spot monitor with collision assist, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Also included in the group are navigation-assisted adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, Rear Occupant Alert, Safe Exit Assist, speed limit sign recognition, and Highway Driving Assist 2 semi-autonomous driving assistant.
Additional safety features of note include full airbag coverage, including driver knee and front center airbags, Hill Start Assist, a rearview camera, and Drive Mode Select featuring Sports/Eco/Normal/My Mode settings.
A quick walk around the Light’s exterior reveals 19-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, heated power-folding outside mirrors, flush power-operated door handles, and rain-sensing Aero windshield wipers. It also has an acoustic windshield and front door glass, proximity keyless entry (touching the door handle unlocks the car) with a push-button start, and a smart power rear liftgate that activates upon approach.
Moving to the interior, we find seating for seven, with second-row bench seating featuring a one-touch tilt/fold/slide function. SynTex faux-leather upholstery covers all three rows. The Light’s driver and front passenger enjoy heated and ventilated 8-way power-adjustable front seats with 2-way lumbar support.
Convenience features include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, 12.3-inch digital cluster with 5-inch climate control display, automatic tri-zone air conditioning with auto defog and rear air vents, one-touch up/down power windows, a wireless phone charging pad, and six fast-charging USB outlets (two in each row).
There’s also a 110-volt interior outlet to power everyday household appliances or laptops.
The EV9 Light’s infotainment system includes over-the-air updates, a 12.3-inch touchscreen housing navigation, an AM/FM/HD Radio tuner, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Bluetooth streaming. An 8-speaker audio system includes Driver Talk, which lets the driver (or front passenger) communicate with rear passengers via the car’s speakers.
Kia’s Digital Key lets you turn your phone into a key that can unlock and start the EV9. You can also share the key with friends or family using their phones. A fingerprint scanner that identifies the driver is tied to the Digital Key technology. It allows the EV9 to pull up the driver’s profile and settings, validate payments, cancel valet mode, and start/drive the vehicle.
With the $1,495 destination charge, the 2024 Kia EV9 Light costs $56,395. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing with $0 down, look for a monthly payment of around $1,064. See 2024 Kia EV9 Light models for sale near you

Available self-leveling suspension – When the EV9 is loaded, the self-leveling suspension brings it back to the proper ride height.
2024 Kia EV9 Land: $69,900
The Kia EV9 Land brings more luxury features and upgrades but retains the Wind’s AWD setup and larger battery pack.
Building off the Wind, the Land adds a vehicle-to-load (V2L) exterior outlet, allowing you to charge an electric bike or run a heater or camping equipment.
Additional equipment for the Land includes Small Cube LED headlights, auto-dimming outside mirrors, a digital pattern lighted grille, gloss-black exterior trim, and acoustic glass for the rear doors.
The EV9 Land interior gains a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel with an illuminated Kia emblem, a digital rearview camera mirror, rear window sunshades, and ambient interior lighting. 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line: $73,900
The GT-Line brings more performance to the EV9, adding more torque and resulting in a 4.5-second 0-60 mph time but lowering the range to 270 miles.

The GT-Line cabin adds GT-Line interior trim, GT-Line seat logos, GT-Line suede cloth headliner and pillar trim, plus a massaging driver’s seat. The front passenger gains the upgraded Premium Relaxation Comfort Seat.

21-inch wheels – Bigger wheels mean more aggressive tires, helping the EV9 in corners but reducing range.
Head-up display – This helpful device projects pertinent driver information onto the windshield, which can be viewed without taking one’s eyes off the road.
Remote Smart Parking Assist – No more worrying about how to get your car out of a tight parking spot. Just use the buttons on the remote fob to pull the EV9 out while you stand safely outside the vehicle.
Are those rims standard for all EV9s or do you have to pay extra for them. They are awesome!
