The Ram ProMaster is unique in the world of full-size vans. It’s the only van in its class with front-wheel drive. That makes it preferable to rear-wheel-drive-equipped vans if you live in a snowy climate; plus, it has a low load floor thanks to the absence of a driveshaft or rear differential. You can get the ProMaster in Cargo Van, Window Van, and Cutaway variants; three unique trims are available. Curiously, you can’t get a ProMaster from the factory with more than six seats, but if sheer cargo volume is what you need, the ProMaster is worth a look.
The Ram ProMaster primarily competes with the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
What’s New:
A heated steering wheel and heated windshield have been added to the options list for the ProMaster this year.
Our Recommendation:
Since value is a big part of what the ProMaster brings to the table, we recommend the humble Tradesman trim. It’s an honest work van with creature comforts like cloth seats and air conditioning, plus a few modern tech features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and automatic emergency braking.

2024 Ram ProMaster Tradesman: $44,960
The base Tradesman trim of the ProMaster is available in the Cargo Van and Cutaway variants. The Cargo Van is available in three wheelbases: 118 inches, 136 inches, and 159 inches. The 159-inch wheelbase is available with an extended body. Every Cutaway uses the 159-inch wheelbase.
The Cargo Van has three roof heights available: Standard, High, and Super High. Yes, Ram really calls it “Super High.” As its name implies, it gives you the most cargo space with a towering 86-inch (over seven feet!) cargo height and a maximum cargo volume of 520 cubic feet. The max cargo volume of the Cargo Van is 304 cubic feet with the Standard Roof and 463 cubic feet with the High Roof. Every ProMaster Cutaway uses the standard roof height.
The standard powertrain in every ProMaster is a 3.6-liter V6 engine, rated at 276 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Output is routed to the front wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. It gives the ProMaster a maximum payload capacity of 4,820 pounds and a maximum tow rating of up to 6,910 pounds.
Standard features with the Tradesman trim include 16-inch steel wheels, 260-degree hinged rear doors, cloth seats, air conditioning, and power windows and locks. These might seem like basic features, but some items like cloth seating and air conditioning are still optional on competitors such as the Chevy Express and GMC Savana.
The standard Uconnect infotainment system has a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Standard safety tech includes automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and a backup camera.
Being a commercial vehicle, the ProMaster has tons of options. The Convenience Group ($845) adds adaptive cruise control, heated, power-adjustable mirrors, fog lights, and a rear cargo LED light. For even more luxury in your commercial van, you can add the Premium Convenience Group ($1,845), which adds automatic headlights and high beams, a 7-inch driver information screen, Ram Connect telematics services, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, navigation, HD Radio, SiriusXM, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and traffic sign information.
The Safety Group ($1,645) is easy to recommend for the safety and convenience it adds. It has blind-spot monitoring, a digital rearview mirror, Intelligent Speed Assist (automatically helps you maintain a safe speed based on speed limit signs), lane-departure warning, and front/rear parking sensors. All of these features are great to have in a big van.
The Cold Weather Group ($1,695) is advisable if your climate calls for it. It adds a 220-amp alternator, full-speed adaptive cruise control, 6-way adjustable front seats with armrests, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a heated windshield, automatic headlights and high beams, and rain-sensing wipers.
The High Roof variants of the ProMaster Cargo Van are available with the Crew Van Package ($7,435), which adds a second row of seats with corresponding windows. Adding the Crew Van Package and a middle seat in the front row brings the maximum seating capacity of the ProMaster to 6. For reference, its rivals can seat between 12 and 15.
A few individual options you can add include a Class IV receiver hitch ($495), premium paint (up to $295), a rear bumper step extension ($475), glass for the cargo doors ($445), vinyl seats ($300), a passenger double seat ($695) which gives the van three front seats instead of two, a wood floor ($495), and rear parking sensors ($295).
With the $1,995 destination fee, the 2024 Ram ProMaster Tradesman costs $46,955. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $886. See 2024 Ram ProMaster Tradesman for sale near you
