The 2025 BMW X5 is so loved because it gets so many things right. When it comes to luxury, BMW excels with both design and high-tech. Performance is BMW’s hallmark, and the X5 serves it in four ways. The X5 sDrive40i and xDrive40i deliver strong acceleration at an entry-level price, while the plug-in hybrid X5 xDrive50e brings both performance and economy. The high-performance X5 M60i hits the sweet spot unless fast isn’t fast enough, in which case there’s the legendary X5 M.
Nipping at the X5’s heels are well-regarded models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and the more affordable Genesis GV70.
What’s New:
The 2025 BMW X5 is largely unchanged from last year’s model.
Our Recommendation:
While it’s hard to argue with the power-to-value ratio the BMW X5 sDrive40i provides, we think the best trim is the M60i. The added power, performance features, and options (like the Bowers & Wilkins audio) make this a luxury performance SUV worthy of the BMW name.
These are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $1,175 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2025 BMW X5 sDrive40i: $66,875 (RWD), xDrive40i: $69,175 (AWD)
The entry-level X5 trims are the sDrive40i and its AWD counterpart, the xDrive40i. Both feature a 375-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. An 8-speed automatic transmission includes an integrated 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor that adds a 12-hp boost when you need maximum acceleration.
Exterior features include 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in run-flat tires, power-folding heated side mirrors with driver’s auto-dimming feature and reverse tilt-down, and the Comfort Access keyless entry system that allows door unlocking and starting the vehicle without having to remove the key fob from your purse or pocket.
The X5 has a panoramic power moonroof, roof rails, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, and a hands-free power liftgate.
However, the most tantalizing features are inside the X5, where a massive curved glass display hides a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system.
BMW’s Sensafin synthetic leather upholstery is quite convincing, but you can opt for the real thing by checking the Merino leather box.
The 2025 BMW X5 has 16-way power-adjustable sport seats with 2-way power side bolsters and 4-way power lumbar support. Of course, both front seats are heated.
Amenities include a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, multicolor ambient interior lighting, multi-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, plus memory for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and a power steering column.
The infotainment system includes a 10-speaker hi-fi sound system, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and BMW-connected services.
On the safety front, the X5 comes standard with Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward collision warning with low-speed emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning, and speed limit info.
Also included are rear cross-traffic detection, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview monitor, and a tire pressure monitor.
Options for the X5 40i include several packages. The Driving Assistance Professional Package ($2,500) adds adaptive cruise control with stop/go and Traffic Jam Assist, lane-keeping assist, front cross-traffic detection, automatic lane change, and hands-off driving up to 85 mph.
The Parking Assistance Package ($900) adds self-parallel or perpendicular parking, a 360-degree Surround View monitor, and Active Park Distance Control.
The Premium Package ($1,900) adds a remote start, full LED lights, a head-up display, gesture control, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system.
Other features available in either packages or as standalone options include a Panoramic Sky Lounge LED moonroof, a head-up display, rear side window shades, soft-close doors, heated and ventilated multi-contour massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and 4-zone automatic climate control.

As the model name indicates, BMW’s xDrive AWD comes standard.
Building off the same standard and optional features as the X5 xDrive40i, the 50e adds a 2-axle air suspension, a flexible fast charger, an acoustic sound generator to warn pedestrians, and unique instrument cluster graphics for the EV system.
