MAZDA CX-3 Safety

Is the 2021 MAZDA CX-3 a Safe Car?

Standard safety features include front, front-side and side-curtain airbags, hill-start assist, Advanced Smart City Brake Support, electronic traction/ stability control, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the CX-3 its best score of five stars overall, but issued a Safety Concern warning regarding the side impact test. Apparently, due to the intrusion of the left rear door during a side impact, the interior door panel struck the torso of a dummy in a rear passenger position, causing rapid lower spine acceleration. In certain high-g conditions, there is a greater likelihood of thoracic injury. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Mazda CX-3 top marks in every crash test category and made it a Top Safety Pick+.

2021 MAZDA CX-3 vs the competition

2021 Honda HR-V — Rides softer than the CX-3. It also has more ground clearance and a larger, more functional cabin, although the interior isn’t as handsome and acceleration is not as quick. 2021 Toyota C-HR — Similar power and fuel economy figures to the CX-3, plus a little more front legroom. No option for all-wheel drive, though. 2021 Hyundai Kona — The Kona offers more interior space, more features and a more powerful turbocharged engine. It also comes standard with a 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. 2021 Mazda CX-30 — Much newer than the CX-3, roomier and with greater engine muscle. Only a couple of thousand more expensive, yet looks, feels and drives even further upmarket. Used Mazda CX-5 — A used 2015 to 2018 Mazda CX-5 will have the same sporty Mazda ride and look but in a vehicle better suited to light off-road use. The CX-5 also delivers more interior and cargo space and, in models with the 2.5-liter engine, considerably more power.
