The Matrix came about as a partnership between Toyota and GM, with the latter producing the "sister" vehicle known as the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/pontiac/vibe" target="_blank">Pontiac Vibe</a>. The base Matrix featured a 130-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota/matrix/xrs" target="_blank">Matrix XRS</a> had a peppy, engine shared by the Lotus Elise capable of producing 180 horsepower that was paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
