What Is It?
The 2017 Ford Fusion midsize sedan introduces a freshened look, new equipment and a new performance trim level, the Fusion V6 Sport, as well as a new top luxury trim: Platinum. These developments are part of a midcycle revamp for the whole Fusion range.
The restyling means a less blatant copy of an Aston Martin grille; it’s not that Aston-like at all now. However, the 2017 Ford Fusion heads distinctly upmarket with driver-assistance technologies such as hands-free parallel and perpendicular parking and an improved version of the SYNC infotainment system — along with up-to-the-minute safety features, including pedestrian detection, a blind spot monitoring system and lane-keeping assist.
It’s the first time this generation of Fusion (the second) will offer a 6-cylinder engine. The all-wheel-drive V6 Sport challenges its computer-controlled suspension with 325 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, produced by twin turbochargers from 2.7 liters of displacement. Over in the luxury department, the Platinum trim brings premium leather and 19-inch alloy wheels. In the green section, meanwhile, the Hybrid and Energi plug-in hybrid both have more efficient electric motors. The Energi is claimed to have a range of more than 500 miles.
