What Is It?
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is finally an SUV from the Jaguar brand. We say finally because virtually every other luxury brand has jumped into the lucrative SUV fray except for Jaguar, but the luxury brand looks to quickly close the gap with the new F-Pace.
On the outside, the F-Pace is all Jaguar: a handsome, flowing shape evoking other designs from the brand, including the XJ and XF sedans. It has a far more athletic shape than SUVs from sister brand Land Rover, whose models tend to focus on functionality and a utilitarian shape rather than a sporty appearance and high-performance driving dynamics. Inside, the F-Pace is all business with a simple, opulent interior dominated by a huge center touchscreen and a high-end control stack.
Under the hood, U.S.-bound F-Pace models will offer three options. Base models feature a 180-horsepower 2.0-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder, which will undoubtedly be the fuel saver of the group. The midlevel F-Pace 35t will use a 340-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6, while the top-level F-Pace S will offer the same engine with an additional 40 hp. All models come standard with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
As for equipment, the F Pace offers many of the latest gadgets, such as adaptive cruise control, an automated parking system, a blind spot monitoring system and a laser head-up display feature. The crossover also offers a 17-speaker audio system and Jaguar’s latest infotainment system with the brand’s InControl app suite. Big families need not apply, as the F-Pace only has seating for five.
Base-level diesel-powered F-Pace models will start at $42,000 with shipping, while V6 models start at $43,400 (for the 35t) and $57,700 (for the F-Pace S).

For too long, Jaguar’s lineup has consisted of large luxury sedans that haven’t managed to attract many new buyers. Then, along came the F-Type, a high-performance 2-seater that changed the way people looked at Jaguar. The transformation continues with the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace, which offers high-end appointments, equipment and materials, along with the esteemed Jaguar brand name in SUV form. If you haven’t considered Jaguar in a while, the F-Pace is another reason you should consider giving the brand a look.
Other Cars to Consider
2016 BMW X5 and X6 — BMW’s perennial midsize-SUV favorites, the X5 and X6, are popular for a reason, offering excellent handling, strong performance, upscale interiors and a wide range of options and powertrain choices.
2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport — The Discovery Sport offers similar sizing to the F-Pace but adds an available third-row seat. We suspect the Jaguar will have it beaten in handling, but the Discovery wins in price.
2016 Porsche Cayenne — Although the F-Pace offers less expensive pricing than the Cayenne, the Jag’s status as a performance-oriented 5-passenger SUV is intended to take a big chunk right out of Cayenne sales.
Used Land Rover Range Rover Sport — While a new Range Rover Sport is a little larger than the F-Pace, the Range Rover Sport touts similar high-end craftsmanship. The latest models also share the F-Pace’s supercharged V6. Pricing is higher though, so you may need to consider a used version in order to match the Jaguar’s base price.
