What Is It?

Although unveiled a couple of weeks earlier, the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS made its auto show debut in Geneva. A brainchild of its motorsport's division, the 911 GT3 RS ups the performance ante of the 911 GT3. Using a re-tuned version of the 911 GT3's 4-liter flat-6 engine, the 911 GT3 RS pumps up the horsepower by 20 ponies to 520 hp. Peak torque is increased, as well, to 346 lb-ft. Engine output gets to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Porsche says the 911 GT3 RS can slingshot to 60 miles per hour from a standstill in three seconds flat, with a top speed of 193 mph. That's roughly 0.2 seconds quicker to 60 than the regular (if you can call the GT3 regular) GT3. Porsche scrubbed a few pounds off the GT3 by using carbon fiber on the trunklid and fenders. The roof is magnesium. A larger front spoiler and side skirts increase downforce.

Inside, Porsche eliminated the rear seats and uses carbon-fiber-shelled seats in front. A special Weissach package further reduces weight with more carbon fiber bits and pieces like the roof, shift paddles and sway bars. Also, the Weissach wheels are forged magnesium, which drops another 25 pounds or so from the standard wheels.

Other Cars to Consider

2018 Audi R8 -- Great looks, fun to drive and scalded-cat acceleration.
