Video | 2019 Lincoln Aviator: First Look

Lincoln isn't sharing a lot about the new Aviator SUV, but here's what we know: The Lincoln Aviator will have three rows of seating, it's based on an all-new platform, and it's not replacing any current Lincoln utility vehicle. You could argue the Aviator is replacing the MKT, but that's been dead for a while now, and the two vehicles are so unlike each other that a comparison feels wrong.

The Aviator looks (inside and out) like a baby Navigator. The sleek look and rounded edges look better on the smaller Aviator, and you can tell Lincoln spent a LOT of time getting the interior just right.

A plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version is part of the plan, but we expect a fairly powerful turbocharged V6 also. The Lincoln Aviator has either all- or rear-wheel drive and has a range of driver-enhancement features. Expect something similar to the Navigator's setup, with profiles like "Normal," "Evo," "Dynamic" and so on.

It's a good-looking SUV and gives Lincoln -- and luxury shoppers -- exactly what they need in terms of a full line of plush sport utility vehicles. For 2018, the Lincoln Navigator earned Autotrader's "Must Test Drive" recognition, and we had the Lincoln MKC on that list in 2016.
