Best Used Toyotas Under $10,000

Given that the brand is so often associated with longevity and reliability, buying a used Toyota tends to be a smart move. The company’s tendency to build vehicles that last longer than the competition means that a used Toyota is likely to have more life left in it than many of the alternatives out there. Here, we’ll outline six used Toyota models that would make a smart move for anyone looking to spend around $10,000 on their next vehicle.

2014 Toyota Camry

2014 Toyota Camry

Any list of affordable used Toyotas might as well start with the Camry. Toyota’s bread-and-butter vehicle for much of the 1990s, 2000s and early 2010s, the Camry has long held the title of the top-selling midsize sedan in America and offers a sensible, conservative design with a comfortable ride, good safety ratings and reasonable fuel efficiency. Given that sedans have fallen out of favor in recent years with the rise of SUVs, it’s possible to find a relatively modern used Camry for around $10k, and we’d recommend looking at examples from the 2014 through 2017 model years. There are around 400 currently listed on Autotrader that would fit the bill. Just about 20 of those are higher-mileage hybrid models, while a few come with the V6. The rest are basic 4-cylinder models. Find a Toyota Camry for sale

2011 Toyota RAV4

2011 Toyota RAV4

One of the most popular vehicles on the market, the RAV4 debuted back in the 1990s and is now in its fifth generation. Buyers looking for a $10,000 RAV4 would be wise to target examples from the vehicle’s third generation, which was on sale from the 2006 through 2012 model years. A compact SUV, the RAV4 offers a good mix of space, efficiency and practicality. Front-wheel drive comes standard, while all-wheel drive is optional, though pretty common. The third-gen RAV4 was even offered with an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine that made 270 horsepower — big power for an otherwise humble compact SUV. Right now on Autotrader, there are tons of third-generation RAV4s available for around $10k, many of which come with AWD. Close to 200 pair AWD with the V6 engine. Find a Toyota RAV4 for sale

2015 Toyota Corolla

2015 Toyota Corolla

The compact Toyota Corolla isn’t exactly thrilling to drive, but it’s an extremely economical vehicle to own. Offering great safety ratings, reliability and efficiency, a Corolla will get you from point A to point B without any fuss. The other great thing about the Corolla is that, like the Camry, it’s possible to pick up a relatively new example for not a lot of coin, and in the case of the Corolla, there are loads of low-mileage options out there for around $10k. A quick Autotrader search yields over 900 results, over 150 of which come with fewer than 60,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Toyota Corolla for sale

2013 Toyota Prius

2013 Toyota Prius

As far as $10,000 used Toyotas go, a pre-owned Prius is about as efficient as you can get. But the compact Prius offers more than just fuel efficiency. While it isn’t flashy or fast, the Prius’s hatchback design allows it to swallow more cargo than your average compact. Combine that with fuel economy of up to 48 miles per gallon combined, and you’re looking at a practical compact car that’s also extremely cheap to operate. Given its ridiculous efficiency, the Prius holds its value pretty well, so on a budget of $10k, you’ll have to go back to the Prius’ third generation, which was sold from the 2010 through 2015 model years. We’d recommend targeting an updated 2012 to 2015 third-gen model, and there are currently over 400 listed for sale on Autotrader for $10,000 or less. Find a Toyota Prius for sale

2013 Toyota Sienna

2013 Toyota Sienna

If you’re looking for the ultimate family transportation solution, look to the Sienna minivan. Given that it’s been on sale in its current third-generation body style since the 2011 model year, it’s possible to find a cheap Sienna that’s not all that different from one you’d buy new at a Toyota dealership today. The Sienna offers room for up to eight and a third-row seat that stows in the rear cargo floor when not in use. A 4-cylinder model was offered for 2011 and 2012, but we’d recommend targeting an example with the 6-cylinder engine, which has been offered throughout the third-gen Sienna’s run. Right now on Autotrader, there are around 250 2011-2015 Siennas listed for $10,000 or less, most of which come with the V6. Find a Toyota Sienna for sale

2011 Toyota Highlander

2011 Toyota Highlander

The 3-row Toyota Highlander is a great choice for anyone in need of extra seating capacity but wanting to avoid the minivan stigma. Beyond offering four traditional doors, the Highlander comes with increased ride height and an overall more rugged aesthetic than the Sienna. At our pricepoint of $10,000, your best bet is to target a second-generation Highlander, which was offered from the 2008 through 2013 model years. Four- and 6-cylinder models were offered, as was a V6 hybrid, which trades some of the efficiency typical with a 4-cylinder hybrid for the added power generated by two extra cylinders. Search Autotrader for a 2008 to 2013 Highlander and you’ll find over 400 options selling for around $10,000 or less. As hybrids tend to hold their value better, many of these are regular V6 models, over 200 of which come with AWD. Find a Toyota Highlander for sale
