The sub-compact and economical Yaris has been around since 2007 and over the course of its lifetime has been offered in a hatchback and sedan bodystyles. With its 106-horsepower 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Yaris excels at being a highly fuel efficient mode of transportation and averages between 30 mpg city to 40 mpg hwy. For being a pint-sized car, the Yaris is packed with safety features such as forward collision alert system with automatic emergency braking, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front-side airbags, side-curtain airbags, rear backup camera, and anti-lock brakes. The entry level / base model of the Yaris also comes with technology features like a 7-inch infotainment screen and Apple CarPlay. Like the Yaris' sister-vehicle, the MAZDA-2 or the comparable Nissan Versa, the interior is small and headroom may be a bit cramped for taller drivers and passengers. Setting aside these constraints, the Yaris is surprisingly fun to drive and it excels in overall value. If you're on a limited budget and don't have much to spend on a car, we think the practical but no-frills Yaris should be on your list. We named the Yaris as one of the Most Affordable New Cars That Get 40 MPG or Better for 2019 and also named it to the 10 Cheapest New Cars of 2020. Popular trims of the Yaris include the L, LE, S, SE, and XLE levels. Our editors at Autotrader prefer the hatchback version the most and we'd personally opt for the top-end XLE version among all others. The Yaris iA was made from 2015-2018. Due to declining sales, the last model year for the Toyota Yaris was 2020.
