If you're interested in a new car, you might be disappointed to discover that many new models are beyond your budget -- especially as you add options and extras for comfort, safety and convenience. As a result, you may start looking for a used car -- only to be turned off by potentially high maintenance and repair costs associated with used vehicles. If that sounds like you, our latest list is a great place to take your car search.

That's because we've listed 10 must-shop certified pre-owned (CPO) models that we consider to be "good as new" (if you're looking for a luxury car, check out our Good as New: 10 Must-Shop CPO Luxury Cars for 2018). Yes, each car on our list is used -- but every vehicle we're recommending includes a desirable, manufacturer-backed CPO warranty that lasts for up to 100,000 miles. That means our selections come without many of the traditional costs (or fears) associated with a typical used car.

Additionally, we've made sure each car on our list is affordable: We've capped our budget for this list around $40,000, and many models we've listed can be had for a lot less. We've also made sure each of our choices are safe, as we've only included vehicles with an overall NHTSA safety rating of four stars or more (out of a possible five stars).

But the main reason we're saying every car on our list is "good as new" is because each vehicle we've selected offers the latest design -- meaning your friends and neighbors will think you got a brand-new model, even though you saved some money with a certified pre-owned vehicle. The result: Every vehicle on this list offers a new design and a long warranty like a new car, at a price that's far more affordable than a new vehicle. How could you go wrong?

2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe2015-2017 GMC Yukon

2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon

The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are popular full-size SUVs that give shoppers the ability to tow or haul while carrying the whole family -- something you can't do in a minivan. They were also recently redesigned (in 2015) to offer better interiors and more technology, which is desirable to many shoppers. But, of course, with that redesign came high prices: Although the Tahoe's base price is $48,500, many are ordered with considerable options; the average asking price for a new model on Autotrader is just over $60,000 -- pretty expensive, even for a big SUV.

The solution is to consider a certified pre-owned example. One reason is the long warranty: The Tahoe and Yukon share a CPO warranty, which touts 6 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the original sale date, plus an extra year on the comprehensive warranty. But you'll also get a good deal: The average asking price for a certified pre-owned 2015-2017 Tahoe on Autotrader is $45,500, a big discount from $60,000, while the Yukon is slightly more expensive at $48,800, due to more upscale Denali-trimmed models.

2015-2017 Ford Edge

2015-2017 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge is a popular crossover that straddles the border between "compact" and "midsize," offering the interior room of a midsize crossover without the 3-row seating most midsize models offer. Recently redesigned for the 2015 model year with a lot of desirable new technology, the Edge can be surprisingly expensive as a new model: The average asking price on Autotrader for a new Edge is just under $36,000. But you'll get a good deal if you choose a certified pre-owned version: Ford's CPO program offers an extra year of comprehensive warranty coverage, along with 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the original sale date. And since the Edge has looked roughly the same since 2015, no one will know you got a used model if you spring for a certified pre-owned version -- though you'll know you saved some money, as the average asking price on Autotrader for a CPO 2015-2017 Edge is $27,800.

2015-2017 Honda Fit

2015-2017 Honda Fit

The Honda Fit is a subcompact hatchback known for excellent fuel economy and a surprisingly roomy interior. Unfortunately, the Fit is among the pricier subcompact models, largely due to its reputation for reliability and strong resale value; while the Fit starts around $17,000, the average asking price for a new model on Autotrader is just under $20,000, and some models with many options are priced as high as $27,000. Of course, you can always get a used Fit, but many drivers are understandably worried about the potential pitfalls of a used vehicle -- even a relatively reliable one like the Fit. That's where Honda's CPO program comes in, as it offers an excellent warranty (one additional year of bumper-to-bumper coverage, plus up to 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the original sale date) and a good deal compared to a new model. That's even true with the latest body style, offered since 2015, as the average asking price of a certified pre-owned 2015-2017 Fit on Autotrader is just $15,500.

2016-2017 Hyundai Tucson

2016-2017 Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is a good compact crossover that offers attractive styling, lots of technology and Hyundai's excellent warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper protection, plus 10 years of 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. That warranty doesn't transfer to the second owner, however, but you can keep it in force if you buy a certified pre-owned model, as they come with the full warranty -- meaning you get excellent coverage even though you didn't buy your Hyundai new. Get a 2016-2017 Tucson and you'll also get the latest design, meaning you'll have a long warranty and a nearly-new crossover -- and you'll get a good deal, too, as the average asking price for a brand-new Tucson on Autotrader is $25,100, compared with $20,500 for a certified pre-owned 2016-2017 model.

2016-2017 Kia Sorento

2016-2017 Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is a midsize crossover with 3-row seating and a lot of desirable technology -- along with the benefit of Kia's warranty, which boasts comprehensive coverage for up to 5 years or 60,000 miles, and powertrain coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles. That's among the best warranties in the business, but it doesn't transfer to most used Kia models -- unless you get a certified pre-owned vehicle. If you do that, you'll keep the 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, and you'll also get a great deal. The average asking price of a brand-new Sorento on Autotrader, for instance, is $31,400 -- but shoppers who choose a certified pre-owned 2016-2017 model get the same design as the latest Sorento and its full powertrain warranty, along with an average asking price that drops to a more affordable $23,000.

2014-2017 Mazda6

2014-2017 Mazda6

The Mazda6 is a handsome midsize sedan that offers sporty handling and attractive styling, along with a long list of available features -- including many of the latest modern safety gadgets. It also touts a well-appointed interior that looks like a luxury vehicle in certain high-end trim levels. But those high-end trim levels can get expensive: The average asking price for a new Mazda6 on Autotrader is around $26,000, with some top-end models closing in on $35,000 with options and extras. That's where Mazda's CPO program comes in, as the Mazda6 has looked about the same since 2014 -- meaning shoppers can choose a certified pre-owned Mazda6 going back to 2014 and get a brand-new design, along with the comfort of Mazda's CPO program, which offers two warranties: one that adds a year to the original factory warranty, and another that touts 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the original sale date. Not surprisingly, a certified pre-owned Mazda6 is more affordable than a new one, too, with the average asking price on Autotrader for a CPO 2014-2017 Mazda6 hovering just below $19,800.

2014-2017 Nissan Rogue

2014-2017 Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rogue is a small crossover that offers 3-row seating -- unusual in a smaller model -- and an impressive array of technology in higher trim levels. The Rogue was last redesigned in 2014, and current models look roughly the same as the 2014 version -- meaning you could buy a 2014-2017 Rogue with no one knowing you didn't get a brand-new car. And you should probably consider doing just that, as a certified pre-owned Rogue offers a few benefits over a new one -- including Nissan's excellent CPO warranty (which extends powertrain coverage to up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original sale date) -- and a discount compared to a new model. Surprisingly, that discount is substantial: The average asking price for a new Rogue on Autotrader is $26,600, compared to an average asking price of $19,900 for a certified pre-owned 2014-2017 model.

2014-2017 Subaru Forester

2014-2017 Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester is a popular compact crossover that offers standard all-wheel drive and more traditional SUV-like dimensions than Subaru's other popular models, the Outback and the Crosstrek. Last redesigned in 2014, the latest Forester still looks the same today, which is good news for shoppers who want to get a good deal by buying a CPO version instead of a new one. It's an especially good deal when you consider that Subaru's CPO program touts 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the original sale date, offering excellent peace of mind -- and that the average asking price for a certified pre-owned 2014-2017 Forester on Autotrader is just $23,400, compared to an average asking price of $29,400 for a new one.

2014-2017 Toyota Tundra

2014-2017 Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that offers impressive capabilities, standard V8 power and a ridiculously long list of trim levels, body styles and equipment options to ensure there's a version for just about everyone. Although the Tundra has been lightly facelifted for 2018, it still looks basically the same as it has for years -- and that means you can pick up a certified pre-owned example without anyone knowing you bought a used model. That's especially a good idea considering the Tundra can get pricey if you buy it new: Although prices start from a reasonable $32,200, the average asking price on Autotrader for a new Tundra is $43,500, since so many are ordered with extras. Consider a certified pre-owned model, however, and you can get a better deal: Not only can you get Toyota's good CPO warranty (which extends the comprehensive warranty by a year and offers 7 years or 100,000 miles of coverage from the original sale date), but the average asking price on Autotrader for a CPO 2014-2017 Tundra is just $35,000 -- making it far more affordable than a new model.
