If you don’t want to spend a fortune on a brand-new car, but you’re concerned about the potential repair bills associated with buying a used model, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle. That’s because CPO cars normally offer a major discount over brand-new models — and they also include long, manufacturer-backed warranties for increased peace of mind. Better yet, many automakers offer CPO deals and incentives to help further entice buyers. To show you what we mean, we’ve rounded up a few of the top offers available in March on some of our favorite certified pre-owned vehicles and several excellent CPO programs.
BMW 4 Series and 5 Series
BMW’s recently retooled certified pre-owned program now offers one year of additional coverage beyond the factory warranty period, with additional years available at an extra cost. While that coverage isn’t as strong as other rival brands, we’re impressed with incentives available on the 4 Series and 5 Series through the end of April to sweeten the deal. Specifically, BMW is offering 0 percent interest for up to 24 months on those models, plus two payment credits — an enticing offer for a desirable used vehicle.
Buick Enclave and Encore
The Buick Enclave and Encore are luxury crossovers that fit into two different categories, with the Enclave being a midsize model and the Encore being a subcompact crossover for city-dwelling SUV shoppers focused on fuel economy and parking constraints. In March, both are available with a special offer if you buy them with Buick’s certified pre-owned warranty, which touts powertrain coverage for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles and bumper-to-bumper coverage for up to 1 year or 12,000 miles. The offer is for qualified shoppers interested in financing a CPO Buick, and it boasts interest rates from 1.9 percent for up to 36 months — a good number for a used vehicle.
Ford’s certified pre-owned program offers two warranties: There’s a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 1-year/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that begins at the end of the original new-car warranty coverage. This month, Ford is supplementing those excellent warranties with an even better deal for qualified shoppers interested in financing a certified pre-owned Ford: Through the end of March, Ford is offering 1.9 percent interest for up to 36 months, 2.9 percent for up to 48 months or 3.9 percent for up to 60 months on all certified pre-owned vehicles.
Infiniti’s certified pre-owned program boasts excellent coverage, touting 6 years of bumper-to-bumper coverage with no mileage limit in many cases — an impressive warranty offered by few automakers. In March, Infiniti’s CPO program is even more enticing than usual thanks to an excellent incentive offered by the brand: Through the end of the month, shoppers who buy a CPO Infiniti can get 1.25 percent interest for up to 36 months, which is a great deal — especially considering the long warranty coverage.
Mercedes-Benz CLA and C-Class
The Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned program offers 1 year of bumper-to-bumper coverage, which begins at the end of the brand’s standard warranty coverage. Although 1 year of coverage isn’t excellent, Mercedes-Benz offers buyers the chance to extend this coverage for a fee. Through the end of March, Mercedes-Benz also has another kind of offer for its CPO program: a low interest deal available to qualified shoppers that touts 1.99 percent interest for the CLA and C-Class, the brand’s entry-level car models. That’s a good deal for a used vehicle, especially when it comes the peace of mind of a manufacturer-backed warranty.
Nissan’s certified pre-owned program offers excellent coverage, touting 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain warranty protection from the original sale date — a good figure that provides excellent peace of mind. And while Nissan’s CPO program unfortunately doesn’t offer additional bumper-to-bumper coverage, the automaker assuages this fear by offering excellent incentives this month. Through the end of March, qualified shoppers interested in a certified pre-owned Nissan can get 1.95 percent interest for up to 36 months, or 3.99 percent for up to 72 months — two good deals on a CPO vehicle.
Subaru’s certified pre-owned program offers strong powertrain warranty coverage of up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original sale date — though we’d appreciate extra bumper-to-bumper coverage, too. Still, even without additional comprehensive warranty coverage, Subaru’s program is enticing, as it offers interest rates from 1.49 percent for up to 36 months — a great deal for qualified shoppers looking for an excellent used vehicle.
The Volvo S60 is a midsize luxury sedan with a comfortable ride and handsome styling. Meanwhile, Volvo’s CPO program is one of the greats, touting 7 years or 100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage from the original sale date. In March, Volvo is offering the chance to combine them with an incentive: Get a certified pre-owned 2015 S60 and you can get 0 percent interest for up to 24 months. While this offer is surely only available to highly qualified buyers, it’s a good deal for a recent model.
What it means to you: If you’re interested in saving some money compared to a new model and getting a full manufacturer-backed warranty, our list of this month’s CPO deals is a great place to find a great deal.
