What Is the Best Model-Year Used Genesis GV80
While you won’t be disappointed by any year of the GV80, we think the best years are 2023 and newer. Those offer better tech, standard all-wheel drive (AWD), and a few ergonomic improvements, such as a better design for the infotainment controls. If you’re not a big fan of giant flat-screen instrument clusters and infotainment systems, avoid the 2025 and up. Also, be aware that the all-wheel drive models come with significantly more standard equipment, so don’t be surprised if there’s a substantial price difference between them and similar trims with rear-wheel drive (RWD).

Genesis GV80 by Generation: Which Should You Buy?
First Generation: 2021-Current
Genesis hit a home run with the GV80 right from the start. With its exterior styling, sumptuous interiors, and litany of high-tech features, the GV80 makes a great used SUV choice.
From 2021 through 2024, the changes are minor, but in 2025, Genesis updated the dash with a large flat display housing both the instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment. It’s a popular trend, but we think it detracts from the elegance and design of the previous dash and cluster. That’s a judgment call, but something you might keep in mind if you don’t like the look.
When it comes to options, Genesis keeps it simple with two main trims: 2.5T and 3.5T. The 2.5T employs a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that routes power to the rear wheels. All-wheel drive is optional on the 2.5T and standard on the 3.5T, which also gets a more powerful 375-hp twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.
Impressively equipped, the GV80 2.5T may be all the luxury SUV one needs if you don’t need all-wheel drive, a panoramic sunroof, or ventilated seats.
The GV80’s long list of standard features begins with:

LED headlights and taillights make a bold statement, as do the power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors, a hands-free power liftgate, and front and rear parking sensors.
The GV80 is big on safety and driver-assist technology, offering as standard many features that cost extra compared to its competition. For example, the forward collision avoidance system can detect pedestrians and bicycles and intervene if making an unsafe turn across oncoming traffic. The GV80 can even detect when another vehicle is about to enter a lane you’re about to move into and steer the GV80 to avoid a collision.
Other driver assistance features include:
- Automatic emergency braking
- Lane departure warning
- Lane-keeping assist (keeping the vehicle centered between lane markings)
- Blind-spot monitor
- Rear cross-traffic detection
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, which recognizes speed limit signs and adjusts the vehicle’s speed accordingly.
- Safe Exit Assist locks the rear doors when it detects a vehicle about to pass close to them.
- Genesis’ Highway Driving Assist II system can slow or stop the vehicle — such as when driving in congested traffic situations — and resume speed once the coast is clear. The system can also detect when a vehicle in an adjacent lane gets too close to the lane markers and move the GV80 away from danger. By pressing and holding the turn signal stalk, the GV80 will automatically change lanes when it’s safe to do so.
On the luxury front, the GV80 2.5T includes simulated leather upholstery, heated 12-way power front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, a power tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, proximity key with push-button start, and 2-position memory for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and steering wheel.
The GV80’s infotainment setup consists of a 14.5-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 12-speaker premium audio system. A console-mounted controller includes a rotary dial and touchpad for handwriting recognition. Initially, smartphone integration required a USB port and cable, but an over-the-air (OTA) update for the 2021-2023 models adds wireless capability, which is standard on the 2024 and newer GV80s.
Adding all-wheel drive to the mix brings more features, including an electronic limited-slip differential, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, manual rear door sunshades, a wireless charging pad, and a rear seat 110-volt outlet. Also included are matte-finish wood interior accents, an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system (warns the driver after exiting if a child or pet has been left in the car), and the Genesis Digital Key that allows certain vehicle functions to be controlled via a smartphone.

The GV80 has a pretty good reputation for reliability, although there are a few recalls involving a possible failed fuel pump, issues with the digital screen, seatbelt pre-tensioners that can detonate prematurely, and a leaking fuel tube. Model-Year Changes:
2025: A new flat-panel display replaces the old hooded instrument cluster, the exterior gets a mild makeover, and the engines gain a few more ponies. A new GV80 Coupe joins the lineup.
2024: Changes include a revised suspension and a standard Wi-Fi hot spot. The Prestige Signature trim returns to the fold, and the 3.5 T Advanced features a standard third-row seat.
2023: All-wheel drive becomes standard, and the Prestige Signature trim gets dropped.
2022: A new Prestige Signature takes its place as the top trim.

Is the Genesis GV80 a Good SUV?
The GV80 is a great used luxury SUV choice. Most models hold their value well, and issues of concern have mostly been covered by recalls or Genesis’ impressively long warranty. Some customers have reported issues with the A/C not cooling, cracking of the panoramic sunroof, a parasitic draw that drains the battery, and glitches with the infotainment system and driver-assists.
Does the Genesis GV80 Have a Hybrid or EV Option?
The GV80 does not yet offer hybrid or electric vehicle (EV) options. However, the smaller Electrified GV70 offers similar luxury features and a battery-powered drivetrain if you don’t need 3-row seating. There’s also the smaller, less expensive GV60 compact SUV.
