What is the best 2019 Chevrolet Malibu trim? - For most drivers, the affordable and well-equipped LT trim is the best value in the Chevy Malibu lineup.
How many mpg does the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu get? - The base 1.5-liter turbocharged engine gets 29 city/36 highway mpg. The Malibu Hybrid gets 49 city/43 highway mpg and the Malibu Premier with the 2.0-liter turbo engine gets 22 city/32 highway mpg.
Which 2019 Chevrolet Malibu trim level offers the most safety? - The Malibu Premier with the available Confidence III package has the most safety tech like adaptive cruise control, advanced automatic emergency braking, and automatic parking assist.
2019 Chevrolet Malibu L - The base Malibu L is a good, value-priced midsize sedan. The base engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4, producing 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. These performance numbers are adequate but not exciting. It has a good fuel economy rating of 29 city/36 highway mpg. Standard features in the L trim include 10 airbags, a backup camera, 16-inch steel wheels, an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a USB port, a tilt and telescoping steering column, a driver information center, a rear-seat reminder, 60/40 split-folding back seats, and the basics you would expect like air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows. Key features of the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu L include:
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay - These smartphone connectivity features make it easy to bring your maps, music, and more from your phone to the screen in your car.
- Rear Seat Reminder - The Malibu won’t let you forget the precious cargo in the back seats.
- Efficient engine - The base engine in the Malibu is reasonably fuel-efficient, returning 29 city/36 highway mpg.
2019 Chevrolet Malibu LS - The Malibu LS adds some welcome features over the base L model while keeping the price modest. Additional features include 16-inch aluminum wheels, an acoustic-laminated windshield, Teen Driver Technology, a compass and outside temperature displays, and front visor vanity mirrors. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is optional, which you can’t get in the L trim. Chevrolet introduced the Malibu RS in 2019, but don’t expect a sport sedan. The RS trim has no performance upgrades and still uses the base 1.5-liter engine. It’s primarily an appearance package for the LS trim. The RS model has black Chevy emblems, a black grille, a rear spoiler, dual-outlet exhaust, and 18-inch black chrome-finish wheels. Interior upgrades include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and a power driver’s seat. Key features of the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu LS include:
- Teen Driver Technology - This feature encourages good driving habits with an in-vehicle report card. You can even set it to mute the audio system when front-seat occupants aren’t wearing their seat belts.
- Aluminum wheels - These add some extra style to the Malibu.
- Available RS model - The Malibu RS is essentially a sporty appearance package for the LS trim.
2019 Chevrolet Malibu LT - The LT trim is where the Malibu starts getting some more premium features. It still uses the base 1.5-liter engine but adds features like LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, heated, power-adjustable mirrors, 17-inch aluminum wheels, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, SiriusXM, and a power driver’s seat.
There are a few attractive option packages available for the LT trim that you can’t get on the lower trim. The Driver Confidence Package adds rear parking sensors, lane-change alert with blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. A Driver Confidence Package II further adds automatic high beams, lane-keep assist, low-speed automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and a following distance indicator. Additionally, a Leather Package adds leather seats, a power front passenger seat, and a Bose 9-speaker premium audio system. The Malibu Hybrid uses a hybrid powertrain that returns 49 city/43 highway mpg. The equipment list is similar to the LT trim other than what’s under the hood. However, it doesn’t come standard with remote start, heated front seats, or LED taillights. Those features are available in a Convenience and Technology Package that’s optional for the Malibu Hybrid. Other than that, the Hybrid’s option packages are the same as the LT’s packages. Key features of the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu LT include:
- Heated seats - This feature is a must if you live in a cold climate.
- Remote start - This is a handy tech feature.
- Option packages - The LT trim introduces desirable option packages you can’t get on the lower trims like two Driver Confidence Packages and a Leather Package.
2019 Chevrolet Malibu Premier - The Premier trim pushes the Malibu into luxury territory without a luxury car price tag. For starters, there’s a significant performance upgrade with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 producing 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s still reasonably fuel-efficient at 22 city/32 highway mpg. The premium appearance of the Premier trim includes chrome exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, bright sill plates, and dual-exit exhaust with polished tips. Standard premium features include perforated leather seating, a power front passenger seat, a memory driver’s seat and mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, Bose premium audio, an enhanced 8-inch driver information center, a rear USB port, a wireless charging pad, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming mirror, and a trunk mat. The Premier trim has the same two Driver Confidence Packages available as the LT trim plus a Confidence III Package which adds adaptive cruise control, advanced automatic emergency braking, and automatic parking assist. Additionally, an available Sun and Wheel Package includes 19-inch wheels and a power sunroof. Key features of the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu Premier include:
- Stronger engine - This is the only Malibu trim with a punchy 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 250 hp.
- Leather seats - Perforated leather seating comes standard, plus heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats.
- Bose premium audio - This rich 9-speaker audio system makes you feel like you’re in a more expensive luxury car.
