<strong>2019 Honda HR-V Overview</strong> - Honda has been building small SUVs for the Japanese market for decades, but the HR-V arrived in America for the 2016 model year as part of a wave of subcompact crossovers. The HR-V is built on the same platform as the subcompact Honda Fit passenger car, but unlike the Fit, the HR-V is available with all-wheel drive. The 2019 HR-V seats up to five passengers in two rows of seats and offers up to 58.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity, with the rear seats folded down. As a subcompact crossover, the HR-V competes with similarly sized vehicles such as the Toyota C-HR, Chevrolet Trax, Mazda CX-30, Ford EcoSport, and the Nissan Kicks. Not all of these vehicles offer AWD, which gives the HR-V a competitive advantage. The HR-V gets power from Honda’s 1.8-liter VTEC 4-cylinder engine, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The HR-V engine produces 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. On most HR-V trims, front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional at an original cost of $1,400. AWD is standard equipment on the top 2019 HR-V Touring trim. The 2019 HR-V with front-wheel drive is EPA-rated to return 28 mpg in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway. Selecting an HR-V with AWD reduces average fuel economy by 1-3 mpg.
