2019 Honda HR-V Overview - Honda has been building small SUVs for the Japanese market for decades, but the HR-V arrived in America for the 2016 model year as part of a wave of subcompact crossovers. The HR-V is built on the same platform as the subcompact Honda Fit passenger car, but unlike the Fit, the HR-V is available with all-wheel drive. The 2019 HR-V seats up to five passengers in two rows of seats and offers up to 58.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity, with the rear seats folded down. As a subcompact crossover, the HR-V competes with similarly sized vehicles such as the Toyota C-HR, Chevrolet Trax, Mazda CX-30, Ford EcoSport, and the Nissan Kicks. Not all of these vehicles offer AWD, which gives the HR-V a competitive advantage. The HR-V gets power from Honda’s 1.8-liter VTEC 4-cylinder engine, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The HR-V engine produces 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. On most HR-V trims, front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional at an original cost of $1,400. AWD is standard equipment on the top 2019 HR-V Touring trim. The 2019 HR-V with front-wheel drive is EPA-rated to return 28 mpg in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway. Selecting an HR-V with AWD reduces average fuel economy by 1-3 mpg. The 2019 HR-V received what automakers call a “mid-cycle refresh,” with updated exterior features in the grille and new LED headlights. Honda also added roof rails for increased utility.
On the inside, the 2019 HR-V received updates to include support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. In response to customer demand, Honda also brought back the volume knob on the infotainment system, replacing an unpopular touch-sensitive slider. Honda added two new trim levels for 2019: the low-cost Sport trim and the top Touring premium edition. Another thing to know about the Honda HR-V is that this vehicle has earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2019 HR-V also earned the top 5-Star overall crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2019 HR-V is the first model year to receive the advanced HondaSensing safety suite as standard equipment on the EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. If you buy a 2019 Honda HR-V through the HondaTrue Certified program, the original warranty is extended to 4 years/48,000 miles, or 12 months/12,000 miles if the original warranty has expired. Powertrain coverage runs for 7 years/100,000 miles from the original in-service date. Honda’s certified vehicles also receive two complimentary oil changes in the first year of ownership and roadside assistance, plus 90 days of SiriusXM satellite radio. Author:
