What Is the Genesis Electrified GV70?

The electric version of the Genesis GV70 is the third EV model for the carmaker. It’s also the first to be manufactured in the United States in Alabama. Since the Electrified Genesis GV70 is made in the U.S., the vehicle qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit. However, as the federal government tweaks its battery requirements, it’s possible that in the future, the vehicle may qualify for less than that. The Electrified Genesis GV70 follows two of the carmaker’s other electric cars — the GV60 SUV and G80 sedan.

The vehicle gets an estimated range of up to 236 miles. Genesis officials said they feel “confident” about the number, even if the EPA has yet to confirm the rating. For charging, the Electrified GV70 will go from 20 to 80% in 18 minutes on a 350 kW DC fast charger. Level 2 charging takes 7 hours and will take about 68 hours using a standard household plug. The car comes with free 30-minute sessions from Electrify America for the first three years of ownership. Genesis estimates drivers will spend $800 on annual electricity costs. The brand will only sell the Electrified 2023 GV70 at select Genesis retailers in 15 states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, LA, MA, MD, NJ, NV, NY, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI.

<h4>What Does the Genesis Electrified GV70 Look Like?</h4>

Cars come in Vik Black, Savile Silver, Makalu Gray, and Makalu Gray Matte. You can choose from several colors for the interior, and both models come with leather seats, though a higher-end Nappa leather is in the Prestige model. You also get standard 20-inch wheels. According to Yanny Pyo, manager of product planning for Genesis, the Electrified GV70 was made with an “aerodynamic, driver-design.” The vehicle’s hidden front driver-side charge port makes it easy to see what Pyo means.

That means charging will be much easier when driving into a public station. No more wrangling shorter cords or backing up to a spot. Other design elements include headlamps and tail lamps with two lines, a distinct crest grille, and sleek lines along the sides of the electric car. Inside, the Electrified GV70 comes in Glacier white, among the choices, with a 14.5-inch high-definition LCD display that is easy to read and manage intuitively, even if you’re not the most electronically inclined. Vehicles come with Boost and I-Pedal modes. Boost mode helps when you need quick horsepower, like passing another car. The I-Pedal lets drivers accelerate and slow down using only one pedal. The car seats 5, though the back seats seem tight for passengers.

<h4>What Is It Like to Drive the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70?</h4>

We found the Genesis Electrified GV70 to be a treat to the senses. For starters, when you hit the Boost button, you get more than a quick output of 483 hp for 10 seconds. You get a massage. The Ergo Motion driver’s seat folds in its bolster supports. It does the same when you drive in Sport mode. Moreover, after an hour on Atlanta’s Interstates and some country roads in North Georgia, the Ergo Motion with Smart Posture Assist seats give the driver a massage to your lower back and a comfortable stretch around the hips. The car offers 14 ways the power seating makes driving comfortable. Integrated seating memory is also helpful when multiple drivers use one vehicle in a family.

<h4>Noise Reduction</h4>

The road sounds get minimized with special Michelin noise reduction tires and interior sound absorbers in the doors. The rear wheel under cover and rear floor insulators also keep things quieter than usual. Going over some of the Atlanta area’s roadways, we noticed the electronically controlled suspension takes bumps particularly well. It previews the road ahead, sensing and minimizing the bumpy movement. For families with smaller children, that’s special because they won’t wake up from naps. It’s also great for those with lower back problems.

<h4>Standard Features</h4>

Though we drove in the daytime and the weather was picture-perfect, we think drivers will appreciate other standard convenience and safety features. Those features include automatic headlights, daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-defogging, and more for safety during bad weather and nighttime driving. It also comes with a full suite of standard safety features like forward collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, parking collision avoidance, a surround-view monitor, and more. Also a treat: The standard panoramic sunroof and tinted glass with solar control. Also, we like the head-up display (an option) because it makes cruising highways in stop-and-go traffic much easier, along with the adaptive cruise features. Ventilated and heated front seats make it easy to feel comfortable on cold or hot days. Optionally, you can add on heated rear seats for your passengers. Sadly, the vehicle does not come with a Crystal sphere gear shift that flips over when you turn on the car like in the GV60.
