The BMW 5 Series is a benchmark for executive-class luxury sedans. It deftly blends a comfortable ride with outstanding handling, for which it has earned its highly regarded reputation. From its cutting-edge technology, like its extended traffic jam assist feature, to the basics of offering a well-sorted rear-drive chassis, this BMW is the real deal. There's a wide range of vehicles to choose from -- the standard 4-cylinder models, the plug-in hybrid (which is also eligible for some federal tax credits) and a powerful flagship in the V8 550i. For our money, though, the classic 3.0-liter 6-cylinder 540i is a good bet. It not only provides great performance, but it also promises good fuel economy thanks to the addition of the mild-hybrid system.
