Level 2 chargers are capable of charging at a rate of 10 - 30 miles of range per hour so you should expect charging to take between 8 - 25 hours to reach 250 miles of range. For example, a typical 60-kWh EV car battery that is almost empty should be fully charged in around 10hrs. The estimated cost of a Level 2 charger can range between $300 - $1,000 for the unit and then $500 - $1,500 for the installation by a certified electrician. Installation costs can vary depending on how far the unit is placed in relation to your home's main electrical panel. You may also need to replace your entire electrical panel or add a sub-panel depending on how many breaker positions are taken. Unfortunately, you cannot install a Level 3 DC charger in your home since U.S. homes only support AC power. Plus, a DC charging station costs between $10,000 - $30,000.
