The Toyota RAV4 Prime combines the best attributes of a gas-powered SUV with those of an EV, allowing travel up to 42 miles solely on electric power, after which the gas engine kicks in to cover longer distances. Unlike the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/hybrid/toyota/rav4">Toyota RAV4 Hybrid</a>, the RAV4 Prime charges using a Level 2 charger. For those whose daily commute is less than 40 miles round trip, you'll never burn a drop of gas, saving you a lot of money at the pump. Based on the popular RAV4 compact SUV, the Prime improves on the formula with impressive acceleration, unique styling and features, and a 2,500-pound tow rating.

Toyota RAV4 Prime (1st Generation: 2021 - Current)

The first generation RAV4 Prime builds off the <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota/rav4">Toyota RAV4</a> compact SUV, adding two powerful electric motors to the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine for a combined output of 302 horsepower. A 38 combined MPG rating is impressive, especially considering the Prime comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD). The plug-in Prime can also run solely on electric power, acting as an EV when driving short ranges. For now, there are only two trims: SE and XSE. Both come with Toyota’s latest safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-centering, and traffic sign recognition. The RAV4 Prime has a roomy cabin with a large back seat and a generous cargo bay. Notable standard features include a blind-spot monitor, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power liftgate, a digital speedometer, proximity keyless entry, and heated front seats. Available equipment includes a JBL audio system, panoramic glass roof, rain-sensing wipers, a head-up display, and a panoramic view monitor.

Model Updates: For 2023, the Toyota RAV4 Prime sees the formerly optional 6.6 kW made standard, and the XSE gets a larger digital cluster and touchscreen display.
