Toyota Camry SE

The Toyota Camry SE mirrors the LE in equipment and engine choices but adds a sportier look with blackout elements, racier wheels, and a few additional interior touches. Like the LE, the Camry SE holds its value well, has a reputation for reliability and low cost of ownership, and offers a long list of optional equipment, including upgraded audio, more safety tech, and additional creature comforts.

Toyota Camry SE Generations

Toyota Camry SE (8th Generation: 2018 - 2024)

Key Improvements: The eighth generation Camry SE adds a dash of sportiness to this family sedan, with a stiffer suspension for improved handling but no additional power under the hood. The SE has a 203-horsepower 4-cylinder engine with a 32-mpg combined fuel economy rating. This generation SE comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist suite, highlighted by forward collision warning and braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and lane departure alert. Standard features include SofTex upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 7-inch touchscreen, Entune audio, power windows, keyless entry, and air conditioning. The SE also adds 18-inch black alloy wheels, blackout headlight surrounds, a black mesh grille, color-keyed rocker panels, and a rear spoiler. Options for the SE include a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, a power sunroof, proximity keyless entry, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Model Updates: The 2019 Camry SE gains Apple CarPlay, with Android Auto and three USB ports added in 2020. Available all-wheel drive (AWD) is also new for 2020, which brings heated front seats, side mirrors, and steering wheel. For 2021, new 7- and 9-inch touchscreens move to a spot atop the dash. The 2022 SE gains dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, and selectable drive modes.

Toyota Camry SE (7th Generation: 2012 - 2017)

Key Improvements: New styling for the seventh-gen Toyota Camry SE marks the most significant change from the previous model. The same 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine carries over, only with slightly more horsepower. Fuel economy averages around 27 mpg combined. The last generation's 268-hp V6 carries over, but not the 4-cylinder’s manual transmission option. The SE has steering wheel paddle shifters, blackout trim and grille, fog lights, color-keyed heated side mirrors, manual air conditioning, power windows, mirrors, and locks, keyless entry, a tilt/telescoping steering column, and 17-inch allow wheels (18 with the V6). Upgrades over the previous generation include a 6.1-inch touchscreen audio system with iPod and Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, auto on/off headlights, and additional airbag protection in the form of front knee and rear side-impact airbags. Options include display audio with navigation, leather upholstery, proximity keyless entry, a backup camera, a power moonroof, and an 8-way power driver's seat.

Model Updates: For 2013, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available. 2014 brings a new Sport options for the SE, which adds a power driver’s seat, moonroof, and 18-inch wheels. The 2015 SE gets freshened sheet metal and an updated interior. New standard equipment includes heated side mirrors, advanced voice recognition for the Entune audio, a power driver’s seat, and a rear backup camera.

Toyota Camry SE (6th Generation: 2007 - 2011)

Key Improvements: The sixth-generation Camry SE offers the option of a 158-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder or 268-hp 3.5-liter V6. The 4-cylinder models offer a choice between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, while the V6 uses a 6-speed automatic. The fuel economy for the 4-cylinder automatic is a combined 24 mpg, while the same engine with the 5-speed manual gets 25 mpg. The V6 earns 23 mpg. Standard equipment upgrades include front side-impact and side-curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag. Other standard features include unique blackout and color-keyed SE trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, a power driver’s seat, air conditioning, keyless entry, power windows and door locks, and sport upholstery. Optional equipment includes a power moonroof, JBL audio upgrade, vehicle stability control, leather upholstery, heated side mirrors, and voice-activated navigation.

Model Updates: For 2010, the SE gets a new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 169 hp. It’s mated to a new 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Vehicle stability control is now standard, as are new 17-inch sport alloy wheels.

Toyota Camry SE (5th Generation: 2002 - 2006)

Key Improvements: The fifth-generation Camry SE returns in 2003 after a brief hiatus. It features a choice of a 154-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic or a 190-hp 3.0-liter V6 with an automatic transmission. Due to new SAE standards, these horsepower figures have been adjusted from the original numbers. Fuel economy for the 4-cylinder with either transmission is 24 mpg combined; the V6 earns 21 mpg. The SE features a sport-tuned suspension, a strut-tower brace, fog lights, blackout treatment, antilock brakes, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Also standard are power mirrors, windows, door locks, cruise control, leather-wrapped tilt wheel, AM/FM/Cassette/CD radio, and manual climate control. Options include remote keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, vehicle stability control, front side-impact and side curtain airbags, a power moonroof, JBL audio, stability and traction control, navigation, and leather upholstery.

Model Updates: The 2005 SE’s 5-speed automatic replaces the previous 4-speed unit.
