The 2022 Honda HR-V returns for the 2022 model year basically unchanged.
An impressively versatile cabin with loads of available cargo space, solid fuel economy, and an affordable price make the HR-V a keen competitor in the compact SUV arena.
Swimming in the waters occupied by the Subaru Crosstrek, Hyundai Kona, Chevy Trax, and others, the current HR-V is an elder within its class. Yet, it holds up rather well.
Honda separates the HR-V into four trim levels (LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L) and offers all-wheel drive (AWD) as a $1,500 option on all four grades.
Every HR-V uses a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine to generate its go. It develops 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. An automatic transmission delivers the engine output to either the front (FWD) or all four wheels.
About average within its competitive set, the HR-V’s government-estimated fuel economy is 28 miles per gallon in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg in combined driving.
Springing for AWD will knock a little off those numbers with 26 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.
Our major complaint with the HR-V is that no driver aids are offered — not even as an option — on the LX and Sport trims. A Honda Sensing package of driver aids is standard on the EX and EX-L grades.
