2022 Lexus GX: Choosing the Right Trim

Lexus adds a new Black Line Special Edition and a few welcomed goodies inside to the 2022 Lexus GX.

One serious improvement is, Lexus replaced the previous 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with a larger 10.3-inch display. In news just as big, it now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Also new across the 3-trim lineup are Intuitive Parking Assist, a navigation system, and power-folding heated outboard mirrors.

Lexus offers this 3-row midsize SUV in three grades: GX 460, GX 460 Premium, and GX 460 Luxury.

An addition to the Premium grade, the new Black Line is basically a lot of blacked-out trim and accents inside and out. Lexus has yet to announce Black Line pricing.

Full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) with 4LO is standard on all three trim levels. GX retains its rugged truck-based body-on-frame engineering.

When properly equipped, it can tow up to 6,500 pounds.

A solitary engine propels the GX. It’s a 4.6-liter V8, generating 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. Dolling out engine production to all four wheels is a 6-speed automatic transmission.

According to government estimates, mileage is 15 mpg city, 19 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg in combined driving.

2022 Lexus GX 460 (starting at $55,425)

Among the standard features in the GX 460 are 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a power moonroof, keyless entry with push-button start, and roof rails.

Also included are a power tilt-telescopic steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, synthetic-leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a reclining-sliding second-row seat.

The infotainment system consists of the new 10.3-in touchscreen, a 9-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Lexus Enform, a navigation system, and multiple USB ports.

The Lexus Safety System + suite of driver aids includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist.

Lexus offers a few stand-alone options on the GX 460, like heated-ventilated front seats for $640.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Includes:

  • Third-row seating – The GX can seat up to seven (six with second-row captain’s chairs). Its third row is really two jump seats better left to children.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Premium Includes:

  • Heated-ventilated seats – This includes the front seats and the outboard positions in the second-row seat.
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control – This system divides the cabin into three regions: front right, front left, and rear. Each has its own temperature control. Once set, the system will maintain the preset temperatures in those zones.
  • Rain-sensing wipers – This system detects moisture on the windshield and automatically engages the wipers. It automatically adjusts the wiper speed according to the volume of rain.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Luxury (starting at $64,935)

The GX Luxury builds on the GX Premium, adding a semi-aniline leather interior, a power-folding third-row seat, a cargo cover, and adaptive suspension.

A $1,570 Off-Road Package adds a multi-terrain monitor, crawl control, multi-terrain select, fuel-tank skid plate, and a transmission oil cooler.

For another $1,145, you can add the 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system.
