2022 Maserati Levante: Choosing the Right Trim

At first glance, it would seem there are big changes to the 2022 Maserati Levante, but not really. It’s mostly window dressing.

Maserati does have an updated logo appearing on all of its 2022 models. Moreover, the Italian carmaker streamlined and renamed Levante’s trim levels.

Beyond that, however, a bump in the pony count in both versions of its V6 is about the only change of substance.

We appreciate Levante’s styling inside and out. Also notable is its wonderful engine note, particularly from the V8. We also like its athletic handling.

However, there is always a caveat or two when discussing Italian automobiles. For the Levante, it’s lackluster mileage and some corner-cutting inside the cabin.

Furthermore, you must go all the way up to the $115,400 Modena S to gain forward-collision warning with emergency braking and adaptive cruise control as standard.

Maserati now offers Levante in GT, Modena, Modena S, and Trofeo grades.

The GT and Modena use a version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. It delivers 350 horsepower in the GT and 430 hp in the Modena.

An 8-speed automatic transmission divvies up the torque to all four wheels (AWD), no matter the engine.

Despite the difference in output, EPA estimates rate the fuel economy for the GT and Modena at 16 miles per gallon in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg in combined driving.

The Modena S and Trofeo source their thrust from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. Here again, the output varies by grade. The Modena S generates 550 hp, while the Trofeo produces 580 hp.

Fuel economy is the same for both trim levels at 13 mpg city/20 mpg highway/16 mpg combined.
