Porsche overhauled its 2022 Porsche Macan. This freshening touched nearly every area from the powertrains to the exterior to the cabin.
Having sold nearly 140,000 examples of its compact SUV since its 2014 launch, Porsche is teeing it up for even more marketing success.
On the exterior, Porsche has refined the front end, added a black diffuser to the back end, and introduced seven new wheel designs.
Inside, Porsche dropped a redesigned center console between the front seats. It provides haptic touch elements, more storage, and houses a shorter shift lever.
In the process of updating the Macan, Porsche eliminated the top-end Turbo grade. This makes the GTS the ultimate Macan.
Some jostling of powertrains, standard content, and pricing is another outcome of shutting the door on the Turbo grade.
Porsche now offers the 2022 Macan in three trim levels (Macan, S, and GTS). Running up the transaction price of any of the grades is easy when you get to the options. There are several.
Each of the three grades uses a unique engine to generate thrust. Every Macan, however, uses the same 7-speed automatic transmission with selectable driving modes to hustle engine output to an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
All three of the 2022 Porsche Macans are compact sporty SUVs, and even the base model gets the job done with ample power and sophistication. Much more desirable for driving enthusiasts is the Macan S, which is considerably quicker and has PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) standard. But if you want to flirt with the 911s and Boxsters at your next track day, a well-driven Macan GTS will, when equipped with the firmer new Sport Package, will open a lot of eyes.
2022 Porsche Macan (starting at $54,900)
The entry-level grade is simply called Macan, but it is anything but base.
Its powerplant is a 261-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It also generates 295 lb-ft of torque. This is a boost of 13 hp and 22 lb-ft of torque over last year’s numbers.
When equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package ($1,220), Porsche says it can reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill in 5.8 seconds. The top speed is 144 mph.
Highly contented, its standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED exterior lighting (self-leveling, self-cleaning headlights with auto on-off, daytime running lights, and taillights), and active grille shutters.
Among its other standard gear are tri-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, leather with simulated suede upholstery, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat, and power rear liftgate.
The standard driver-aid technologies are front-rear parking sensors and lane-departure warning.
Included infotainment features include a 10.9-inch touchscreen, four USB-C ports, Bluetooth, navigation, voice control, Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite-radio capability, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a 10-speaker audio system. The Macan isn’t Android Auto capable.
Porsche offers several options and option packages.
You can add driver aids as stand-alone options to any of the trim levels. They include surround-view cameras ($1,200), Self-Steering Park Assist ($390), lane-change assist ($700), lane-keeping assist ($700), and adaptive cruise control ($990).
The Sport Chrono Package ($1,220) includes an analog-digital stopwatch, SPORT PLUS mode with performance-oriented settings for the engine, the gearbox, chassis, launch control, and more.
A Premium Package ($2,240) brings with it lane-change assist, heated front seats (front and rear) a 14-speaker Bose surround-sound system, and upgraded LED headlights.
The Premium Plus Package ($5,050) includes all of the content of the Premium Package plus a panoramic roof system, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, and ventilated front seats.
Adding the $1,350 destination fee to the base price brings the total to $56,250. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $1,011 per month. See 2022 Porsche Macan models for sale
2022 Porsche Macan includes:
- Active grille shutters – Opening and closing as needed, helping cool the vehicle’s engine. Open equals more cooling. Closed means better fuel economy.
- Tri-zone automatic climate control – Provides separate controls for the driver, front-seat passenger, and rear seat of the vehicle. It’s a set-and-forget system, automatically maintaining the preset temperatures for each of the three regions.
- Power rear liftgate – Not only does this liftgate open and close with a push of a button, but the opening is height adjustable, guarding against opening into a garage ceiling.
2022 Porsche Macan S (starting at $65,400)
Powering the S is the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine formally in the GTS. It makes 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Porsche claims, when the Chrono Package is added, the sprint from a stop to 60 mph requires 4.4 seconds. The top speed is 160 mph.
The S builds on the content of the entry-level Macan with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, 20-inch alloy wheels, 6-piston calipers on the front brakes, and memory settings for the front seats.
It’s worth noting that previously the 20-inch alloy wheels and the PASM were options totaling $4,310.
Sharing the three option packages listed for the Macan, the S offers several others, as well.
Adding the $1,350 destination fee to the S base price totals $66,750. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $1,199 per month. See 2022 Porsche Macan S models for sale
2022 Porsche Macan S includes:
- Twin-turbo V6 – This is the same twin-turbo found in the 2021 Macan GTS. Porsche puts it in the S for 2022.
- 6-piston calipers – The caliper is what grips the brake disc. The base Macan gets 4-piston calipers. Six-piston calipers provide improved stopping power.
- PASM – Porsche Active Suspension Management system constantly monitors changing surface conditions, speed, and driver input to adjust any or all of the dampers to reduce vehicle body movement and enhance handling.
2022 Porsche Macan GTS (starting at $79,900)
Phasing out the Turbo trim level for 2022 elevated the GTS to the top of the Macan model range.
Porsche transplanted the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from the late Turbo grade into the GTS. It generates 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.
After adding the optional Sport Chrono Package, Porsche boasts a blast to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds. The top speed is 160 mph.
Its standard content includes a sport exhaust system, aerodynamic side skirts, a high-gloss black roof spoiler, the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), heated GTS sport front seats, and GTS leather-faux suede upholstery.
Porsche made two previous options standard on the newest GTS: 21-in. RS Spyder Design wheels and Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) with red calipers. These options totaled $4,510 on last year’s GTS.
The 2022 Macan top dog also has adaptive air suspension but lowered it nearly 0.4 inches. The suspension is tuned for roughly 15% more stiffness.
Porsche offers an optional Sport Package ($12,010) on the GTS. It includes the Sport Chrono Package, Torque Vectoring Plus, 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats, Sport Design mirrors, unique 21-in. wheels, and more.
The Premium Plus Package available in the lower trim levels is also offered for the GTS at $4,790.
Adding the $1,350 destination fee to the GTS base price equals $81,250. With no money down, financing for 60 months at a 3% interest rate works out to $1,460 per month. See 2022 Porsche Macan GTS models for sale
2022 Porsche Macan GTS includes:
- Twin-turbo V6 – Transplanted from last year’s Turbo grade, it develops 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque with a top speed of 160 mph.
- PDLS – This is the Porsche Dynamic Light System, which automatically adjusts the range of the beam according to the car’s speed. Also included are cornering lights, which swivel the main headlights toward the inside of a bend based on the steering angle and vehicle speed.
- PSCB – Porsche Surface Coated Brakes have a thin layer of tungsten carbide outside the rotor. The advantage is no rust, no brake dust, and no brake fade, all associated with typical cast-iron brake rotors.
