Leaning heavily on the XC40 Recharge, the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge is a totally new SUV model.
Two key facts you should know: First, you can only buy the C40 online. Upon delivery, you will pick up your C40 Recharge at your local Volvo dealer. Second, Volvo is only offering C40 Recharge in one trim: Ultimate.
Maybe there’s a third thing you should know. The C40 Recharge is the first electric vehicle (EV) from Volvo that doesn’t have a version at least partially powered by gasoline.
Volvo wants us to think of C40 Recharge as something other than an SUV, but it is basically a coupe version of the XC40 Recharge.
It uses the same dual electric motor (one on each axle) powertrain as the XC40 Recharge translating into the same all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
C40 Recharge delivers a combined 402 horsepower and a range of up to 226 miles between recharging.
The government uses a special formula for calculating electric-only mileage when estimating fuel economy. The government calls it miles per gallon electric (MPGe).
The estimates for the C40 Recharge are 94 MPGe in the city, 80 MPGe on the highway, and 87 MPGe in combined driving.
For the sake of comparison, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV’s maximum range is 247 miles. Its estimated mileage is 125 MPGe city/104 MPGe highway/115 MPGe combined.
Keep in mind, as of this writing, the C40 Recharge still qualifies for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
